Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Simple answer to the question about why this death march is so prolonged.

The economies of scale are long gone, and at this point, it appears that there is no logic in continuing the cash burn by keeping any stores open. There is no brand equity left to sell, and there is no foreseeable turnaround. So the answer is this: timing the remaining closings for situations where he can get leased real estate really cheap.

I have eight SYW accounts under different emails and phone numbers. I also used to work for Sears and we would make up names and phone numbers of people so we could meet the metrics. I wonder how many real people are in the SYW database and what it is really worth?

Sears isn't about the real estate anymore really except for propping up the overall commercial real estate market. That's Seritage's thing. If you want to Sears is really about, do a patent search for patents that contain both Eddie and Leena's names on it. There's quite a few. It's Shop Your Way, Shop Your Way, Shop Your Way. He's a legend in his own mind, the father with his holy Mother as the creators of the greatest shopping membership network the world has ever seen, if only people would realize it. Seriously, look up the patents, and compare the aspirations with the sad reality of its real world execution and implementation. The "Transformation" nonsense he's always gone on about like a literal cult leader has ALWAYS been about Shop Your Way, with him as the savior. It's what's supposed to get him in the history books. It's a tragicomedy is what it is.
