Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

West Colton

Ive been hearing a lot of rumors regarding more workforce reductions in the Car Department at West Colton. Is there any truth to this, I would think it plausible considering another 1200 employees system wide will be cut by end of this years last quarter.

That number (1,200) is coming from the published transcript of a conference call on third-quarter earnings and performance. It was published by UP through official channels. They talk in percentages, but a little arithmetic leads to about 1,200 additional jobs being cut in the fourth quarter alone.

I personally think that publishing the transcript was their way of telling everyone to start looking for another job now, because you will either (A) lose your job shortly, or (B) have to take on the work of whoever was furloughed in addition to your own.

That 1200 number is from Lance Fritzes own mouth. Also The Wall Street Journal has an article on UP. That number is legit, its not a secret, your Managers may be trying to hide it from you, because there so much smarter than agreement employees. Or so they think. Amazing what an online degree from ICDC college will do to the ego.

They will lay-off as many people necessary to get to the 55 OTR and 200 people doesn’t seem like it will be the number to get them to that goal even with yard and shop closings and storing only 400 locomotives they will have to do much more. It’s a fire sale at this point scorch everything in sight to achieve a OTR number that’s not viable.

Where does everyone keep getting this number of 1200 more people being furloughed??? 400 more locomotive's are being put into storage. With the math being a ratio of .5 employee per locomotive, that equates to 200 more people, not 1200.
