Thread regarding Sears layoffs

2 best things about getting laid off

I no longer have to deal with inept managers and a useless and ill-prepared door buster list. With such a small amount of stores, not sure a door buster list is really beneficial anymore (really hasn't been for quite sometime now).

I'm getting unemployment money plus severance so for a number of months I'm making an extra $1,300 a month.

NJ is a wonderful place to be unemployed, when I did it 13 years ago it was a 6 month vacation with no financial impact. I lost $65 every two weeks but didn't have to get shirts pressed, go out to lunch, burn gas and sit in traffic. Unfortunately, most states are not a generous as NJ when it comes to unemployment.

@pms Sorry I meant $650 per WEEK so let me post it again: Of course I live at home. MY HOME, that I share with my wife (and own outright with no mortgage). We dont have any kids, our Expenses are low, so when I drew Unemployment back in 2010, Max Rate in NJ was about $650 per Week, and with those extensions, they Paid 99 Weeks then. Combined with wife's Salary, our Expenses weren't 25% of Money coming in. So I did quite well on Unemployment, thank you.

That's what I said 5 months ago. Unemployment insurance run out and I still cannot find job, after 500 applications.

@lgh If you can survive on Unemployment Insurance you either live at home, are rich, or both.
