Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

BRCM Benefits are a joke vs SYMC

I dont know about you all, but the benefits are turning out to be way more expensive, at least in the USA. The RSUs are also not nearly as good as Art was leading us all to believe, and there is basically no incentive other than the RSUs which take 4 YEARS to fully pay out.

So yeah, we have all been gaslighted for the past two and a half months. Good luck to everyone!

Dont get me wrong, Im glad to have a job.... for now. But anyone arguing that this is the same or better than what we are leaving is up in the night.

100% agree, if you are a PPO user, the benefits cost 3x. Other benefits like life insurance are also more expensive. The net impact to a PPO family subscriber is $10K hit to your total earned comp.

If you are in sales at Broadcom, the comp plan is a total joke.

If you were a travelling employee with a car allowance, you lost it.

If you were a remote employee with a work at home allowance, you lost it.

If you were a manager, 90% odds you got demoted.

But I guess that pales in comparison to what 190,000+ individual Symantec accounts are going to lose when Broadcom abandons them.

Greetings All, I’m in Symc sales and on the chopping block any day now. Take this opportunity to find your new adventure. The cyber security job market is white hot....if you can’t stand the heat in the kitchen then step outside, take advantage of your ‘employed’ time at BRCM to explore new opportunities while you have a job. Leverage your experience at a Blue Chip company like Symc with recruiters. BTW, I’m finding that the pay is greater outside of Symc..just find the right culture and fit for what you’re looking for.

It makes it hard, but not impossible. 24 hours in a day. Side hustle until you can go full time. Rome was not built in a day. Use your job as your investor. You don't need a new idea, you just need to pick something, and make it you lifes mission. No risk, no reward. A job is actually more risky, look at what is happening.Put your dependents to work. No free lunch. Just saying...

dependents, not defendants

start your own business

easier said than done. if you have defendants, that's very risky

It's okay guys. You'll bounce back. Just remember when you think your not good enough to be an executive, start your own business, etc.. Take a look at the examples that are leading this company, or your middle level management. You are more than good enough. Remember to love yourself.

The Symantec executives are out of touch with the rest of the population. Once this company is done, they won't be sh–. Your titles don't, and won't mean sh–.

and remember folks... the executives, including good 'ole Art, will be getting ACCELERATED RSUs.

Me?
salary = same
"bonus" = same (I thought Broadcom didn't do bonuses?) This I'm still confused on.
RSUs - but I have to wait 4 years. I'm sure I'll be RIFd by then.

Basically - me and the money has been transferred. No incentive to join. Oh well, grateful to still work for now.

Out of the four points mentioned, only basic salary and total compensation were met. However total compesation based on equitity is a joke. Benefits significant lower and distance to work is irrelevant. There wasnt even mentioned if Broadcom would to lay off within a year, i get compensated on Symantec term.

The Anthem HSA plans are substantially better than SYMC

@11ATJHF8-pmc

You arent looking at the total. If you are on the 500 deductible PPO, the cost of the 250 PPO which is a better plan, but costs WAY more annually so the cost/benefit doesnt match up.

The bonus and RSUs are deferred, so counting on them is not wise. If you are here long enough to get them, then great. However, looking at the history of BRCM with CA, you maybe have a 50/50 chance of making it to the full four years, and I think that is being over optimistic.

Take all that out, and the overall picture is worse than when this all started. Maybe not with what you selected, but for many it is. So I applaud you for being one of the fortunate ones, but please dont act like this is people overreacting. The point being made is that this is not an improvement on Day 1 for anyone other than the folks at the top, just like usual.

I must admit to being confused by this negativity - health benefits are better (family HSA), dental about the same, vision (not enough details but looks to be close/slightly worse)
(no 401(k) details to compare, no ESPP details to compare)
RSU more
Bonus more
Base salary: same

I got about +10% of my salary via RSU increase and about -7.5% of my salary via reduction in benefits.

+2.5% for now. However, my base salary have remained the same for many years. With total inflation (5-6% for 3+ years), I am actually lost 2-3%
