Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Phony questions

Anyone else get the feeling that the questions raised in the all hands are staged?

Will WOW awards still exist? What will day one look like? Do they use salesforce? Who asks these questions...?!

Surely everyone cares about one thing and one thing only.... if we’re not being kept on when will we know! I’ve asked it numerous times but it’s never been raised.......

I agree that many of the chosen questions seem like seeded nonsense. I don't even understand why so many people are worried about whether this or that office are closing. Why did an entire call need to be devoted to that? Does the office staying open guarantee whether you have a job? Obviously not. Stop muddying the water with nonsensical ideas.

If you are a stay with tenure in Symantec they throw so many RSU's at you it's hard to leave!

@116chU5i-wsb Agreed my friend, keep your head down, "Business as Usual" is what we were told. BRCM doesn't want to lose "stays" or key players because of uncertainty. CA'ers were told to continue with your daily operations, problem is key positions that would have gotten stays packed up and left. It was funny to see engineers and mainframe guys just get up and leave a month before acq.

Two comments below - completely agree. Thanks for sharing your insight. I wonder if things will work out for the new Symc business.... seems a crazy strategy to me but time will tell!

I can tell you Sales Force is gone, and there will be no special corporate awards/events. Prepare to work off the primitive "Google Suite" and all "Sales Force" will be rolled over to excel spreadsheets. This should be reflective on how BRCM operates. Like I said, very primitive methods, basically you work and BRCM pays, you bottom line, if you even get an offer. Most will be gone Day 1 and another 3rd on transition and then gone. A third of the Company will be left after this acq.

It's politics. They are trying to fill gaps. Those all hands and stupid questions have one major purpose to reduce panic and keep core engineers as long as they can.

They don't care about your feelings and will not give answer on those questions at least transparently without "dancing". They care about the bottom line only and are doing anything to reduce negative impact on it. Each action has purpose. Asking stupid questions themselves is just one of those actions.

"The best plan is to profit by the folly of others."

I would suggest to not think much about it. In general, decisions were already made. The best thing that you can do is to take short vacation.

Fair enough. We would certainly benefit from ranking questions based on how often it is asked instead of random choice out of a fish bowl. That would probably filter out the WOW award type questions and lean towards more relevant questions for a broader audience.

Of course - I understand that. My point is more; the pertinent questions are being dodged / not asked. If the most pressing question in someone’s mind is whether wow awards or whether or not BC use salesforce then more power to you.

Just because it doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it is irrelevant to someone else.

thanks - I wonder if that’s any diff with Symantec having to front the RIF $. Assuming CA didn’t. My assumption was we’d know way before then, but you know the saying about assuming....

The majority of CA'ers didn't find out until deal close. If you were a stay you knew about a month before.
