Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Broadcom Culture ?

Wondering how our life going to be post-Symantec? Does Broadcom organise social events, team building, luncheon, parties ? Or the experience would be like working in a “Dictator organisation” ?

Absolutely spot on @115Q12Ms-1pcf post.

The culture is oppressive. Seriously every aspect of operations are scrutinized. It’s a $20B company run like a 20 person company. People are a liability at Broadcom, that is the CEO’s POV. People are a necessary evil. Having said this the focus on acquiring sticky finger companies and squeezing your customer’s you-know-what is an interesting strategy. It’s the old strategy of searching for processes with very high switching costs. Will it works for software? Dunno. Time will tell, even the moldy software on the mainframes at some point move off. I give it 3 years before wheels fall off the bus.

"spat at ... slapped ... called a piece of sh– ... then kicked ..."

You certainly paint a pretty picture. I can't wait to start.

Working for Broadcom is like coming in to work and getting spat at in the morning, slapped just before lunch, called a piece of sh– about 1500 then kicked down the stairs on your way out the door.

Broadcom solely exists to extremely maximize profit out of every aspect of operations (no stone, no matter how small, is left unturned). The culture is continuous cost cutting, following rules, and staying in swim lanes. If you’re seeking a “feel good” culture look elsewhere.

Former CA'er , there is plenty of opportunity out there, no one should be worried about losing there job. Got a big severance check along with a transition bonus, took a month off and moved right into my next job!
I was a 14 year veteran and it still worked out well, everyone at Symantec should keep their heads up, start applying, interviewing. If you get on with BRCM it is not a bad place to work, if you get RIF'd day one hopefully you will be prepared, if you get transition you just hit a small scratch ticket.

They will treat you like a Monkey. However, don't expect to get a golden banana until you grow a banana tree, which they will harvest for years.

Your office will likely get a decent coffee and few other small perks. However, they expect that you will work 5-8 hours more per week.

As soon as you get something, there will be hidden cost, which you will pay latter.

I am going to run as soon as I get better offer. I don't have any trust in hardware engineers trying to control complex software products.
