Didn't make it to 2020 either. Found a job at another big(ger) tech company instead, including a 19% raise ... should've left a year earlier I guess. O yeah, even before covid-19 WFH was allowed there for up to 60% of the time. Now it'll be 100% 'till EOY probably.
It seems things are going pretty good.
Lots of good products at CES, more of engineering goes together in a single organisation, and some new customers placing big orders.
I hope we see more positive headlines and not so much negativity now.
I didn’t make it to 2020 at synamedia. Got a nice offer and put in my 2 week notice. I miss the good ole days in building 5.
FIRE New management....must have said it wrong when you said new management has the fire. Fire? What a joke! Clueless leaders, especially in the US. Blind leading the blunt. This company is a t–d because people aligned themselves at the onset who were NOWHERE to be found at CISCO, but all of a sudden the voices of the people? Angling, firing, weeding out, colluding...so many things I could share. And now? Yes, you are all looking like fools taking this company into the ground. Pulled the wool right over incoming management's eyes, let go the wrong people. Will never recover and our identity and culture were lost. Worst company I have ever worked for, and worst managers I have every seen in US and UK locations.

It apparently doesn't occur to Synamedia management that going on a layoff board and posting such things over and over, comes across as not only pathetic, but desperate.

of course we make it into 2020. And 2021. The new management have got the fire, and they know where the skill in the company is. We going to make IVP the great success it deserves to be.

I must say, I joined Scientific-Atlanta in 1997, and relocated to the Lawrenceville campus with my group in 2000 when it opened. For 10 years or so, it was a vibrant, happening place. Interesting technology, interesting people, it felt like the world was our oyster. Labs on every floor in every building, lots of meetings with tons of people, you were proud to be there. For some time after the Cisco acquisition, it felt the same. We even built the 6th building around that time. Then a steady decline under Cisco. Yes, video was a difficult business and now even more so, but some companies played to win and are winning. It feels shocking, stunning, and so very sad to see this once vibrant place come to a slow dying death. Ah, the good'ol days. I'll always remember then. RIP LWR.

We’ll survive. Yes, there might be more layoffs until we are sized appropriately, but we’re not going to just shut down the business.
Encoding not likely to go to a competitor. We've been the only vendor outsourcing most of the encoding technologies (to Renesas). Renesas! They couldn't care less about s/w encoding, you cannot even find it on their website. Our encoding experts nearly all left or were LR'd long ago. Why would anyone want to touch our stuff with a 10 foot pole ? The few technologies we did do, the experts are gone. What we have is a boat anchor we didn't even design. Every other vendor has their own experts and technology, and they've been investing instead of LR'ing their experts. What a joke.
Permira will likely sell it off in 3 pieces - X1 and certain security items to Sky/Comcast; Encoding to some current encoding competitor; and the remainder at a fire sale prices to God knows who.
The end is near with YP at the helm and turning down new business for Infinite Video because the product is such a POS.
There is literally no hope for synamedia. Yesterday's products for yesterday's market.

Most of the original NDS and Cisco engineers will be gone by the end of 2021 and Permira will sell Synamedia to some equally dumba$$ company for small profit. Then buy back again in 5 years for an utterly embarrassing amount (like $150 mil).

As a company as it is in its current form? No. Continued layoffs / project cancellations / further selloffs...watch for jobs being sent to India
