Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE Global Research Center (GRC)

GE is a failed company, rotten to the core.

Bad leadership, shoddy morale and horrible business ethics for many years are now taking their toll.

GRC is at the core of all this.

Hardly ever have I experienced such a superb assembly of id–tic self-proclaimed experts and wannabe-scientists.

Its now mid 2021 and the original post still rings true. The place keeps getting worse. All the decent people left. I'd say the 80/20 ratio of 80% hacks and 20% good is even a little generous. The place full of hacks. Especially at the so called " platform leader , manager, team leader levels". No creativity or innovation at all.
Theres no team building, leadership, management, accountability or anything. Retaliation is rampant. Hoarding charge numbers and project funding for job security is the name of the game. Nobody cares! People are just milking the system.
If you actually come into this place and care just start applying the clown makeup now. The fake managers and wannabe people leaders will provide you with the bright colored clown wig.

I've worked with a number of GE businesses, if you give the GRC teams clarity of direction , they will deliver. If the problem statement is more like "we want to do something in wind", the end result may be something that you don't like. You'll be surprised at how many times businesses come to GRC without a clear statement of work. Whose fault is that ?

One would think if GRC were not there, suddenly GE would become 300$ stock ? Get a sense of reality guys. There were issues of size and scale of GRC, Vic's painful clearout a couple of years fixed that.

You own the product lines, you own the P&L, you own the quality. Look in the mirror if you want to see reason for decline.

Create and invent? Name one product GRC invented in the last twenty years.

Well, as long as GRC is happy with itself then I guess everything is okay with GRC

"Executives" and "leaders". I wonder what the ratio of "leaders" to worker bees at GRC is currently....

Look around, are people happy? Ask what the head count is, and its trajectory. Estimate the overhead and figure out the run rate at GRC. Will the corporation desire to continue to pay the cost? Are the executives adding value, or overhead? Are you willing to bet your career on it?

I'm not. I got out. Oh, bye the way...it will take you 3-6 months to find the next gig. Enjoy your time.

GRC is a great place to work. It’s true that the company is having a rough time but the bad times will pass. I have worked in many companies and I think GRC has the best talent I have seen. People are motivated to create and invent . Period . You can dog us and put us down but we won’t get beat. Take note. GRC will survive even if GE is broken up and sold. I have been through this before. My former company was sliced up and sold but the research center survived.
