Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

The deal will never close

  • Broadcom = Hock Tan = Chinese Gov
  • Symantec = Security = US Gov

Things are not compatible here.
Hock Tan will be stopped just like he was stopped when he went after Qualcomm.

Fat chance. Hook moved the headquarters to CA to ensure future deals get DOJ approval.

This deal will go through. Unlike Qualcomm, Symantec doesn't "own" a substantial percentage of the enterprise security market anymore. Crowdstrike, Tanium, Forcepoint, Cylance, etc... (not McAfee) have eaten its lunch over the past few years. Symantec's products were really out of date (not cloud-enabled) so it had to buy Bluecoat to get back in (just like McAfee did with Skyhigh Networks). Symantec also needed to buy a new enterprise sales leadership team, which is why it paid a ridiculous $4B+ for Bluecoat (not worth even half that based on revenues/profits).

Symantec enterprise will spinoff into a wholly-owned subsidiary of Broadcom with a Special Security Agreement in order to keep its government contracts.

They will cut all the fat that Symantec generated over the years. If you are a VP / SVP / GM you can start looking for a new job. I was part of CA and experienced this a year ago. Who stays in Broadcom gets nice additional bonus / stocks and better health and 401k benefits. you will be running lean operations without all the corporate b—s— and nonsense. Good luck!!!

They said the same thing about the CA acquisition - the US government won’t allow it to happen... it did. 6,000 people laid off; around 2,000 divested to PE and Indian Firms and around 3,000 remaining with Broadcom. The deal will go through and if for any reason it doesn’t - Symantec will be forced to layoff 1,000’s of people... hope it works out for everyone.
