Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

So long! Farewell! It’s time to say goodbye!

Received notice this week and the sheer relief has been bigger than expected. I had some good times and met some really great people but the bad outweighed the good. I never played the game and my career paid the price but I never had trouble looking at myself in the mirror. No more BS ranking system that encouraged people to forget their morals, no more backstabby coworkers, no more management who are either clueless and weak or liars (not sure which is worse but they both hurt you all the same).

Taking my severance and running towards the light because it’s not a train.

I wish everyone who were also laid off the best of luck. May you turn this bump in the road into an opportunity for something so much better. Be happy.

@3yyq+18fvSkIF - not saying other companies are utopia. But I can guarantee you that most company cultures are nowhere as toxic as XOM.

Run, run to the light OP!

XOM is the only company in the history of history to be this bad.

You will find Utopia with any other company. Please let me know where you land so we can join you in the sun!

uqk+18fvSkIF You seem a little jealous about that. I guess that huge cut in your benefits really dropped your overall compensation. Is it much higher than min wage now?

I worked with a lot of intelligent and good people at ExxonMobil. The cuts though are baffling. I’ve seen so many good people getting cut and people that commit unethical acts or don’t even do base responsibilities being saved. The xom 2020 cuts have to be one of the biggest jokeS in xom history.

To all of us cut, we all know it was circumstance and not so much personal. If anything, it really made all of us realize we are just a number...those left behind and those of us cut. Just a number.
Heard about couples being cut, some on paternity & maternity leave, and others that have come back from
disability...all cut. I know someone who admitted they don't work more than 4 hours a day if that...they are safe. The proclaimed slacker is SAVED. Meanwhile, someone across the hall we both(me & the slacker) know got cut and they are smart and hard working. Should have cut the slacker AND THE SLACKER ACTUALLY THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING.

The company could have handled this better. The involuntary and voluntary bucket just created division between people.

I feel for both groups who are left behind and the ones cut. Retirees will be OK. But the involuntary folks and the ones left behind, I wish you luck.

Same deal here, it’s a huge relief. The haters will hate. Reality is, they’ve got some jealousy that you’re free to do whatever while they’re still schlepping around coddling their sycophant boss. I do think it’s good riddance, and by that I mean dang good you and I got out before the real sh*t storm hits.

Sorry you were released and went through tis stress. Ignore the trolls on the site - definitely do not work for XOM. I will not blame COVID for this, some poor mgmt decisions left us exposed to a market downturn. We need more empathetic leadership and a realistic vision for our company.

yes there are better (and worse!) places to work, but if you think "office politics" or "back stabby people" only work at XOM, you're going to be very disappointed.

Of course you are relieved. Now we have to pay for your unemployment through our taxes. NoMoreFreeLoaders!

In about two months you will realize this is the best thing that could have happened to you. I wish luck to all of my friends still there.

I feel the same way. I have slept like a baby the last two nights. I didn’t realize just how stressed I actually was. Best of luck to all the others who were released.
