Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Whats up with linkedin posts?

I see so many linkedin posts from VMW employees "I am excited to be offered a position in the new Broadcom post acquisition", really do you need to rub it into the faces of those laid off? Bad form in my view.

@ztw+1pUYsbwI…it’s not automatic. You have to self-select showing contacts job updates.

I cannot believe all the title demotions that are coming thru LinkedIn. I'm seeing lots of "So excited to be a at AVGO, this is gonna be great!"

I want to post "Condolences to you", but I won't - because I will keep it classy.

But.. do any of the others of you have what I would term "Severance Grief" - specifically sadness that people HAD to take FTE offers and demotions. It's sort of the opposite of "Survivor Grief", but for those who get early parole from prison instead of signing up for 4 more years of BS.

The good part about these posts is that these people self-select their way onto my Do Not Hire list.

The mediocrity required to willingly move from an innovatively broken organization to a culturally broken organization is just too much.

My sh#tty and cunning low-life manager took credit for all the work done by me and the team and got himself a promotion at BC (he is not worth it, trust me). He then gave us all the boot and will likely replace us with BC contractors.
Guess what, he bragged about his new role on day 1 on LinkedIn. I posted my fake congratulations message in the comments section and gave his message a like. He is so useless, all he does his polish the shoes of people with influence and give kickbacks to stay in the game. If BC is truly focused on revenue, he won’t survive. Can’t wait for that day

That’s frankly sh---y behavior by LinkedIn to automatically project enthusiasm for a job update. Makes the person look really exited when they were basically just updating their resume. It is in line with the bullsh-t auto-suggested responses. For a while I was getting “congratulate your dead friend on his job anniversary because no one closed his account!” — probably will get the same reminder this year.

As someone who got laid off, I personally don’t mind the posts from people who are announcing their new roles with Broadcom. Sure it may sting a bit to be reminded that my services weren’t needed by BC but I’m still happy for those folks who got offers and will always like those posts.

The only posts that make me ehh are the ones that go “So sorry to see colleagues get laid off but as of today, I joined Broadcom as Client Butt Scratcher” or something. Like I get wanting to show sympathy for those laid off but I feel it doesn’t fit with the overall post. It’d be akin to someone beating cancer and then posting “Sorry to the folks who lost their lives to cancer..but anyways I’m now cancer free!!”

As someone else posted, its just the default text LinkedIn sets. I only changed my title because the new one sounds more prestigious. I also checked "open to work"

I want to post about how happy I am to have the severance and be spending time taking it easy while others join the sweat shop.

If your friend just suffered a miscarriage it would in fact be in poor taste to celebrate your new baby delivery/pregnancy right in front of them.

That's like saying no one should celebrate having a baby because some people had miscarriages.

Nothing to celebrate!

AFAICT, those posts are generated automatically when you update your job information. At least that's what happened to me even though I thought I chose the option to not share the change with my network. Given everything, I just wanted it to be a quiet change. I'm grateful I still have a job but don't see it as a reason to gloat - it's a somber time.

They are looking for a new job and want to make it clear they were not laid off. Cannot blame them.

I potentially will have a FT offer as I’m still awaiting, it’s ok for people who either express job loss or celebrate they still have a job. But for myself I have been liking and commenting on all my VMW folks who have posted job loss to support them as it’s nothing about their skills or capabilities, this is just a pure capitalist game. I won’t update my LinkedIn status to new Broadcom role until after new year, don’t want to make it harder for some going through job loss during holidays. I wish everyone leaving will get a better job to match VMWare’s benefits like 18 weeks paid maternity leave, annual $5k for study/take1 and hybrid work/life balance and remember we/people make our culture so bring the DEI integrity to anywhere we go

It is not their fault that others were laid off. Should they not celebrate their new role?
