Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

HR is completely useless. They should be the first to go.

Citi HR, true to their nature, provide little to no help at all to those being let go. Not a surprise by any means. I mean they don’t help you while you’re employed, why would they provide guidance when you are let go. So let’s look at what they offer, let’s look at what they do.

  1. ) “Here’s the employee handbook”, this is what you get which by the way is riddled with busted links and phone numbers OR links that take you to an FAQ page.
  2. ) HR chatbot. OK, if we are directed to go use that, why do you need HR then.
  3. ) No responses to emails. You can find you HR rep and pull up their email address. Why bother offering it if you are not going to respond…..EVER.
  4. ) Auto canned responses with busted links and\or a general link to a FAQ page that does not answer your questions.

If this is as good as it gets, and it is, then why have them around? Trim them back by 80%. You don’t need to hire an army of HR reps to do steps 1-4 above. So if you want to trim the fat, if you want to get rid of the unnecessary, start there.

How is getting rid of HR a bad thing? What are you possibly going to miss?
An empty desk will provide you with the same amount of help you get from them.
So again, what are you going to miss by letting them go?

I’ve worked at two other large companies before, I don’t remember the HR there being as lost or vague as they are at Citi. At first I felt sorry for HR here as they didn’t seem to know anything. Then I later realized that its more of a they don’t care to know anything.
I wasn’t hounding HR every day. I just had two things to inquire about and got nowhere fast.

Since we are reducing heads and scaling back on staff, you don’t need as many HR staff.

This post is so classic. I reached out to my HR rep with a question via email. Later my manager contacted me and told me that HR said I was not to contact them directly but to go to an internal site and seek out the answer there. LOL

I posed my question in the search and got nothing. I asked my team, nada. I asked during a meeting with multiple different teams on it and no one knew. I mentioned my experience my boss who was on the call backed me up on the HR redirection they gave me. The responses I got from the guys was “sounds about right” “par for the course” “that figures” etc…

If you think HR's job is to help employees, you don't understand what is HR's job.

The one thing that you count on HR to do is to do nothing.
Doing nothing is where they shine.

HR has coasted for a very long time now. Getting paid and doing nothing for it.

Post ID: @zom+1qSTLMuY What do you expect when Citi can only attract job applicants and employees who are inferior and subpar compared to JMPC, Goldman, BofA. Barclays etc. because Citi can Not afford to pay comparable or better salaries and bonuses??? The root cause is Citi's inability to sell its products and services and by extension, be profitable. Citi wants or needs a car, but can only afford a bicycle, or worse, only a skateboard. LOL !

HR works for Citi and not for any of us

"worst" by far. Maybe you should learn to spell and use the King's English before throwing stones. We can now see you grew up in a trailer and went to public school

I’ve been at 3 other mega large companies. Citi HR is the worse by far. I thought the ineffectiveness and non-responsiveness of 2 of the other companies were bad but compared to Citi, they were freaking awesome.

I swear that Citi HR works extra extra hard at avoiding responsibility. Really putting in the effort to NOT respond and provide guidance. How those guys continue to keep their jobs is amazing to me.

HR is ineffective because they are afraid to be fired. Citi is a top heavy management company with 13 layers of managers. It is too hierarchical so everyone is afraid to make a mistake.

Most useless HR that I have ever experienced. I filed a claim earlier in the year and two weeks went by with no response. And the IT? Holy sh-t, they are pretty much just an answering service.

Of the 5 wall street firms I have worked for, Citi is most disorganized one, including onboarding, offboarding and other HR related documents. There is no centralized place for you to find out information. You are always directed to different places.

Actually this is a problem, not only to HR, but the entire Citi management. Compliance, pre-clearance for personal trading. It takes a lot of time for a new comer to navigate through Citi's eco system. and it is a complete waste of time.

I couldn't agree more. This is the most useless HR in all the firms I've worked at. They are truly useless. My HR BP doesn't want to be pinged on Teams for any reasons whatsoever, you can only email her and she ever misinforms you or sends you irrelevant links
