I currently work in RIS on a program. I was offered a promotion to work at corporate. I think I'm going to decline it because I'm too worried about potential lay offs at corporate. What would you do? They announced just yesterday 15,000 lay offs are coming to Collins, Prat, and RTN Corp. Why would they being hiring if they intend to lay off? I just dont think it's the right move still.

@znl+16ZyIPgt I found out today. All upper management and Corporate are being reorganized under the TRD department. Total Redundancy Department also referred to in the engineering ranks as T^RD.
Me personally I am not worried about being laid off or furloughed. I work in the manufacturing floor making the products.(legacy Raytheon) What I’m concerned with is my pay and my benefits. Benefits always get cut back with a merger, so I expected that. The pay however, I am most concerned with what they’ll do with our wages. I suspect them to restructure job titles, and in the process adjust pay scales. Example, say my title is a widget maker and I make $25 an hour, instead of coming out and telling everyone they’ll be cutting their pay and have a lot of people quit they just restructure the titles and instead of a widget maker now my title is a widget specialist and the pay scale tops out at $20 an hour for widget specialists. See how easy that was? You could do that company wide and cut a tremendous amount of cost with minimal repercussions.
Because if they make the announcement internally then people start to wonder if they’ll be cut. People are already wondering that but many think that because they haven’t received any notification that that somehow makes them safe or safer than others. If they were to send anything out internally hinting at layoffs or cuts people begin to wonder and get upset, they begin to do less and less work and the morale goes to sh–. More so than already is. You won’t know you’re cut until they tell you that day. There won’t be any pre-warning, you’ll just come in one day and bam. That’s how they keep their workflow moving at the same pace. We are all mushrooms to the company, keep us in the dark and feed us sh– and we will flourish. That’s how they view us.
What's sad is that they haven't announced this at all internally. I found out from the news. No publications have come out and the ones that have, say things like: "The strengths of RTX", blah blah. Executives are saying we are resiliant, the pandemic has brought us closer together....what?! Executives are safe, they didn't get pay cuts or raises taken away. How about the company own up to it and just let employees know so they can start looking elsewhere for another job. Very disappointing.
I've known people who have gone the opposite direction carreer-wise (e.g. high level managers going down to engineer level to be a "worker bee" to "hide out" and be "safe" from this storm). LOL
The announcement has clearly described which offices would be reorganized, hasn't it?
All Raytheon corporate should be fired and start over. They created the current mess.
As a corporate employee, please take my advice and STAY WHERE YOU ARE!!!!!!!
Be aware that some of the functions in RTX Corp have not announced their full org structure and all levels of the organization. There are still employees that don’t know if they will have a job by year end. I would ask the team you received the offer from if they’ve completed their org announcements(all levels) and determine based on their response.
They’re likely offering you the promotion because you would be replacing someone who probably made double whatever they offered you. It’s a number game. Fire guy making X to promote another guy that will make substantially less but still get a raise. Hope that makes sense. Personally I’d take it. You’d be safe as you’d be making less Than the guy you replace.
Stay away from RTN corporate.
Those people will be laid off since there essentially is no more corporate. Some might be integrated into one of the BU but that will cause further layoffs. Bad situation all around.
I would think they wouldn't be filling positions they know will be eliminated a few weeks from now.
