Piper Alpha was over 30 years ago. There are only a handful of current employees that have been with the company that long. VH had been with oxy for only 6 years, and never worked in the North Sea. Many current employees have never heard of it. Saying Piper Alpha has anything to do with oxy today is a stretch and ruins your credibility. It's like saying you wont buy a Chevy because your 1988 Monte Carlo was a piece of, you know. Andy don't try to say "it's the culture" for the same reason. Culture changes with time, just like people do. The entire executive staff has turned over several times since then. You can make a better argument.

Oxy tends to have bias integrated in its corporate culture. A lot of it rides on politics. It’s indicated by their inconsistent performance ratings and fuzzy explanations. Management will only think those who look like them are worth keeping. When you have a piss poor manager, guess who gets to be the scapegoat. That’s what is called systemic racism. That is Oxy. Good riddance.

No, it's a very very small minority of the employees. But misery loves company so they all come to hang out here where they can pat each other on the back, and tell each other how bad the world treats them.
