They will only announce a percentage of how many will possibly get laid off, though the actual number will not be known till mid May. No valid numbers/job codes will be announced Wednesday.

They won’t announce job codes and actual dates that are the planned fallback to lay-off dates till May 22nd. That is the following week after the VLO’s are tallied.

This is per HR of Chicago.

If you didn't not want to get laid off then you should have filed for a ERT at least twice going up grades.
If you get a warn and lay off then you would drop a grade to whatever the grade is and start the process over get another warn wait then drop to your original grade and repeat.
This buys you 6 months if you do it right.
But now it’s to late to ERT so good luck.

I got almost 8 years so I am good. Worst case I get laid off for 1-2 years, sit on unemployment for a bit and get called back. Easy.

Friday May 1st is really the date everyone should keep on eye on, that's the cutoff date for the Co. to ask for Gov. bailout....if they get that, they'll keep people busy for awhile.....

Go to IAM751 webpage. Top new story, click on it. Scroll down almost to bottom. It tells you right there, anyone that takes the VLO forfeits their right to a recall.

I read through the HR manual and can not find where it says you wouldn't be rehirable in the future. Anyone actually learn this through offiial sources?

Just wish there was a known number and how far back in each job codes. It’s always the media or public hear layoffs announced and we’re left to stew in it for days or weeks. Nothing should be released till we hear first. But that would mean the company gave a sh*t. It’s just business I know.

I'm sorry for you all. (no sarcasm) It's going to be a rough time. Half of you will be out the door by year end. Wait for the ILO if you want to come back in a couple of years, other wise get out first and grab the first job you can before the flood.

  • Boeing Is Grounded

The coronavirus-fueled collapse in air travel has made it highly unlikely
that airlines will be adding new jets to their fleets any time soon.
But when the world’s carriers are ready to take deliveries of airplanes and
place new orders again, the odds are increasing that those planes will be made
by Airbus rather than Boeing.

There are no coronavirus winners in the aerospace market.
Airbus SE has said it will cut production by a third and some analysts think
even that may not be enough. CEO Guillaume Faury has warned employees
that the company is “bleeding cash” and needs to drastically cut costs. Boeing.
Will reportedly announce job cuts and plans to take monthly production of its
787 Dreamliner into the single digits when it announces earnings later this week.
Some 17,000 planes — about 64% of the global fleet — are now grounded,
according to the industry analytics company Cirium.
Airlines have warned demand will remain depressed into at least 2021,
so we’ve likely only seen the first wave of cancellations and order deferrals.
But once people do start to fly again, the emphasis is going to be on smaller,
fuel-efficient models.
Boeing has little to offer on that front right now.

@zuz+14GOfqZG they don't usually cast that wide of a net. It's usually more narrowed.

I agree with your point.

VLOs are sent out to everyone in a job code that is having reductions. With the exception of people with less than 1 year are not eligible. If there are 100 people in a job code and they need to reduce 25 but they get 40 people signed up they will give it to the highest seniority people. I got the invitation before and was denied VLO because they got to many people in that job code. So sending out invitations to 90% of the people is not an indicator of how many get it. Although I do expect many layoffs

VLOs are typically determined and offered to SURPLUS employees in specific skill codes.

From what I have been able to ascertain today, it appears the VLOs went out to 85% to 90% of the company.

Can we then infer that most of us are SURPLUS?

That should tell you all you need to know about how the Chicago leadership views all of us.

Why should I chill and wait for a ILO? Why should I believe this VLO offer is a ruse to trick the government to give us string attached loans? Boeing can afford some how to pay me for years of service right now, in spite of the lawsuits and grounding and other c-ap. Who knows what will be available later, maybe it will be mass firing for “performance” with no severance. You tell me wise guy would it be better to stick around another month or two for a bogus PIP or convenient termination rather than take this sure money sitting in front of me?

With airbus announcing deep cuts (up to 30%), Boeing stating roughly 10% is a little hard to believe. I don’t think it could be as drastic as airbus but it’s hard to imagine only 10% with Calhoun stating roughly 2-3 year recovery for air travel industry.

Hoping and wanting to be optimistic that it isn’t that deep. I’m not taking the VLO as I’m not in the position financially to and have only been with Boeing for just under 10yrs. Dunno if I’ll get ILO.

I just wish all good luck.

The whole no benefits thing only applies to non-union employees generally. If your union, the benefits are negotiated and in you contract so they can't take it away unless your union does nothing to stop them (likely). You'll still get your WARN notice as that is law.

Read page 4, RIF/ILO for Covid = no benefits, nothing, unless the company decides not to follow their own HR plan.

@sph ..... also, the VLO I was offered states the reason I'm being offered it is because my job code has been ID'd as a job code up for surplus.....meaning, layoffs

Read the HR handbook text for yourself "@sph+14GOfqZG"- you sound like a bot. Or, dont take the VLO and end up with nothing.

They blamed the VLO on Covid, read the note, any RIF that follows will no doubt also call out COVID.

Right now, we have a national emergency due to Covid as well as a national disaster been called.

but hey, I am freaking out too, I have been here for 30 years and do not want to upend my life, plus finding a new role somewhere else is damn near impossible, and I am several years away from retirement.

Very scary times.

It just means your job code is deemed “surplus”, they will review VLO applications on an individual basis

If after the VLO is finished, does anyone out there know if we would qualify for any benefits under the TAA Act, if a mass ILO?
