Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

January RTO

I really hope this 5 day RTO crashes and burns. So I'll be showing up to sit on the floor just like the Stink wants me to. I want to see it go terribly so Stank has to tell everyone that we're going back to a better work/life balance. I wish he'd just done layoffs at this point instead of drawing it all out.

"If you are a high performing member of a team doing critical work, or you're running a critical program...you are not going to be dismissed simply "because" you are NVW. They are not doing that."

Oh boy… when you fall, and you will, you’re going to fall hard. This absolutely IS happening.

Highest rating there is every single year, critical projects, connection awards, retention bonus, off cycle salary increases, all of the things… hit this year because of my zip code.

Don’t let ANYONE believe this can’t happen because it can and does. Wake up or you won’t recover when it happens to you.

The FIRST time that I have to sit on the floor because there is no seat, I am going to send an email to the nearest EVP and ask if I can use their office for the day.

You must be new here. If you read the posts, every layoff is a top performer.

You're completely off base. I’ve consistently been a top performer, either achieving the highest rating or just below it due to limited slots at the top. I’ve worked virtually for years, leading and contributing to highly visible and critical projects, and I know many others in the same position. Despite this, I was asked to move and I declined, my choice was move or leave, so I will be leaving solely based of my zip code. Both my director and AVP fought hard to keep me and others in our roles. While I was offered relocation assistance, it wasn’t feasible for my family. So, stop assuming this has anything to do with the quality of the employees—it’s entirely about location.

Jeremy Legg is a good dude.

You mean Mr. Honey I Shrunk The Kids?

Being an over-reactive potty mouth when someone criticizes you doesn't make you a good dude. It demonstrates your incompetence.

Dude's a gaslighter.

Really , who?

Stop making things up. Focus on yourself and your subpar work ethic.

I will chuckle when the likes of you Virtual workers get hit hard by RTO in 2025 and you either move here to Dallas or find new work. Just facts. It has been openly communicated from our L5 down.

What gall to think you’re above RTO.

Virtual WILL be gone in 2025 regardless of what you want to believe lol. You think they’re moving people all over the country and you’re going to stay in the comfort of your home?

By 2H 2025 virtual roles company wide will be less than 5% and that will only be for L3+ IC’s. You are not special.

Consider yourself warned.

" You’ll see very soon. Virtual is gone."

This is the same angry person again ^^^^

Making things up because they are petty and jealous, and it would make them personally "feel better" if a qualified and well performing peer lost their job simply because they are not within a daily commutable difference to an office. Again, sad and pathetic. I have to admit that I will chuckle when the likes of you are dismissed before them. You will cry about favoritism and brown nosing, etc. And you'll be gone anyway. Your fixation on this one issue tells everyone all they need to know about the kind of person/ worker you are.

They are NOT eliminating "all" NVW. If you are still NVW and don't really have any day-to-day work, and have somehow managed to still be here, yes... I would be worried for sure.

If you are a high performing member of a team doing critical work, or you're running a critical program...you are not going to be dismissed simply "because" you are NVW. They are not doing that.

I hope a lawsuit comes up regarding inadequate space vs mandated 5 day RTO. Especially if folks are getting disciplined over it.

FAFO seems to be the only way to learn.

No fair, I have kids! How will I manage them and all their appointments if I am forced to RTO? Telecommuting was an excellent fit for me.

“You’ll see very soon. Virtual is gone.”

Virtual will stay along with the rest of the hypocrisy, business favoritism, political entrenchment, buddy system, and DEI special treatment. Absolutely nothing here is fair, consistent or predictable except for that fat menacing bald headed oaf of a CEO and his maniacal decisions.

This is that person that post here a lot that is absolutely CONSUMED with rage over the fact that some still have that designation, and literally can’t focus on anything else. It’s sad. Worry about yourself. You sound pathetic.

So why is there still an occupancy indicator of NVW. National Virtual Worker. I could see it if you’re so exceptional they can’t afford to lose you but I’m sorry that’s not the case in what I’m seeing.

Attrition was down and vacation was being held for end of year.

RTO was needed to help thin the herd.

Greatest example is a teleworker.

Why ever retire when you can barely work at home and keep collecting benefits and a check?

I agree - they're not going to officially roll it back (unless, say, Stankey leaves and the new CEO wants to make a mark), but they'll stop paying attention.

"This will no doubt be rolled back to 3 days by summer."

"Roll back" is not something that ever happens.

Admitting a policy was flawed is not something that ever happens, and that is what a "roll back" would be saying.

What does ALWAYS happen though, is that our dim witted, follow the leader after the fact, not an original thought in their heads executive team will be distracted and lose their focus on the flavor du jour (which is currently RTO and the Presence Report).

This initiative has more legs that the usual hare-brained idea, but nonetheless, as always, eventually things will get back to the way they were.

There will be no official "roll back" or declaration that you no longer have to go into the office every day. That ain't happening. But eventually, what WILL happen, is that your Boss isn't going to be reviewing the report weekly with their boss anymore. Soon after that, no one is really going to care where you're working from again, as long as your work is getting done. This probably isn't happening in 2025, and there will be a lot less employees when it finally does. But rest assured, it will. In 2026 if I had to bet.

So the only real question is how long you want to try and stick it out for.

The Stink hopes RTO su-ks and you have to sit on the floor, bring in your own toilet paper and soap! Stink wants to make every more miserable so you quit and he does not have to pay severance. He don't care if you don't get your work done or productivity declines or if customer service S U C K s

I chose to follow the job and sitting back in my home office during my 6 month grace period. (all smiles here). What do you mean they don’t have a spot for me? (more smiles). They can’t lay me off. That would be their choice, which requires them to balance those layoffs amongst age, race and gender. (widest smile yet). You can’t lay off an old white guy that opted to relocate for RTO without also choosing a person of color and a female. (widest smile ever).

(singing now with a contagious, sparkling, glowing smile)…
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed days, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

5 Day RTO is a delusional chicken leg pipe dream covered in fake dark chocolate. Chicken little wanted a people transformation so bad he could taste it but all he got was was a bad haircut, an ugly christmas sweater, and a ni-ple ring to make himself look punk for his after school rock rubber band. Schools out forever. RTO gonna get spiked back in your face homeboy.

The company is not prepared for 5 Days RTO, so make them answer your concerns about working conditions. If nothing changes by 1/6 (which it won’t), just start filing claims. These offices are not up to par for the ask. They will have to respond to official claims that there office buildings are exceeding capacity set by law.

They will just find a reason to fire you. The biggest will be their broken presence report if you have under 8 without a reason. That will be next. They are already notifying people of being on the bad side of the report. Lots are getting notice. Next step is write up, then fired without a severance. They want you gone and this is the cheapest way to do it.

We won't be "going back" or buying more furniture. Force reductions will continue, and likely accelerate. It is also likely that terminations for cause will increase. It's only been a warm up game thus far.
