@jgan+1d73rNPX We Know this already. No need to bump an old thread for that. Even when this closes there will still be about 7 Sears Hometowns in Puerto Rico, as well as a full line Sears and Kmart. I'm not surprised that they trimmed a little fat.

The list of 18 full-size Sears stores remains unchanged. However, the small store in Naranjito, PR, is now listed as closing at https://www.sb360.com/select-projects/events/sears-list/ . This was one of the last new Sears stores to open, in 2018.

the Company owned little stores are the ones franchise owners turned the keys in .

FB is down right now, but that FB page, when it is working, for the Hawaii store, does not refer to the word "Hometown". As for the Sears appliance store next to Bronx Kmart, I see no mention of it closing anywhere? But I would imagine there are probably countless such small format Sears, around the country that aren't listed on any central website, per Say, but have their own FB pages or what have you. That's why I never got involved with the Sears end of things, as far as list-making, because they have about 700 different "types" of Sears (OK, I'm exaggerating, but still), and the lines between the different types are often murky and ill-defined. I mean, what exactly is the difference between a Sears appliance, a Sears mattress and appliance, Sears Home/Life, Sears Hometown, Sears appliance repair, Sears uncle fred's boomers Sundries store, Sears Bingo equipment for old grandmas store, Sears this store, or Sears that store? I'm waiting for a Sears fish and tackle to open up in Antarctica. The lines between these different types of Sears are very murky. I guess we have to get used to it, because small format Sears are going to be about the only kinds of Sears left, very soon.
That's why i stick to the Kmart-end of list-making, LOL. At least with Kmart, it's very cut and dry, as to what is or isn't a Kmart.

The store in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, appears to be a Sears Hometown, according to both
https://www.searshomeapplianceshowroom.com/home/hi/kailua-kona/9248 and Google Maps.

Oddly, it does not show up under Hawaii in the list of all Hometown Stores at https://www.searshometownstores.com/store-list . It is unclear to me how up-to-date or reliable that list is, which is why I don't try to keep track of Hometown Stores.

Do we have any confirmation that the Sears part of the closing Bronx Kmart is staying open?

@2lna+1d73rNPX Then don't rely on the website. You're missing at least these 2 stores, the one in Hawaii,
https://www.facebook.com/SearsHASKailuaKonaHI/

plus the Sears appliance store which is next door to the closing Bronx Kmart:

https://www.sears.com.pr/stores/new-york/bronx/0005208.html

The latter is a store with a separate entrance just to the right of the now closed Kmart.

For completeness, these are the company-owned small format stores that are listed on the Sears store locator as a "Sears Store". This list does not include Hometown stores, most of which are franchised but some of which are company-owned.

Anchorage, Alaska - Home & Life
Fort Collins, Colorado - Appliance & Mattress
Honolulu, Hawaii - Appliance & Mattress
Overland Park, Kansas - Home & Life
Lafayette, Louisiana - Home & Life
Camp Hill, Pennsylvania - Appliance & Mattress
Naranjito, Puerto Rico - unidentified small format
Pharr, Texas - Appliance & Mattress

To my knowledge, these are the only Appliance & Mattress and Home & Life stores that Sears has ever opened.

They should probably change the name of the Hometown Stores since the name "Sears" is seen either as a joke or brings up the thought of a terribly bad experience. Only the old people like the name because of the nostalgia of when they were a kid.

Fine, here are the stats, though the list of remaining stores is now so small that they are pretty easy to see anyway:

2 states with 4 full-size Sears: CA, FL
1 state with 2 full-size Sears: WA
7 states and Puerto Rico with 1 full-size Sears.
40 states with no full-size Sears.

(Of those 40 states, five have company-owned Appliance or Home and Life small-format Sears stores: AK, CO, HI, KS, LA)

@gco+1d73rNPX Dying? No they're continuing to open new Hometown stores like for instance Minot ND got a Sears Hometown earlier this year in the old Party City location near Dakota Square Mall but depending where you are at I doubt they're doing fine but for Sears -Full line it's game over for them 2022 might be there last year of existence before the whole chain goes defunct

Any hometown store I've been to seems to be dying as well. Probably why they want to franchise them out........if it fails, the owner is stuck losing their shirt.

@zhg+1d73rNPX yup, plus he needs the statics at the end. I am glad he mentioned Hometowns were not included because I was ready to jump on that if he didn't

I don’t care for this format, it’s difficult to read. You should put a space between states and a different line for each city.
