Company I worked (CA Inc) was acquired from Broadcom in 2018. On day one, Broadcom 50% of US workforce. Best of luck to those at VMware and be prepared.

Best advice is to get a lawyer to represent the group. We had the same lawyer represent the people who were cut and also the people who stayed to make sure the terms were agreeable.
The people who were cut and on transition did very well and were paid well above minimum with the mass cuts.
For those who stayed the lawyer was able to negotiate private family health care instead of just only the employee.
Just be careful and respectful and don't demand like the Germany Symantec employees did with their trade unions for their company car that led Broadcom to completely close down all of Germany offices for both CA (who was not involved in the demands) and Symantec. Payouts in Germany were extremely high though.
They hate hiring interns and new grads. They only want to poach people they dont need to train. If you lvl 5-6, they will throw the bank at you. If you live in the middle of nowhere and have the ability to support some ancient mainframe product because everyone else has retired, they will throw the bank at you and let you be remote.
Day 1 is about 50 layoffs.. 6 months is close to 70.. beyond that about 80+.
@yyd+1gSYxf03 You might make more than at CA, but I am doubting you make more than other people in the industry.
I agree, if you know what you are getting in to it is fine, but I have yet to meet someone who actually likes to work for the company.
When they took over CA, any temps or interns were let go immediately. All new starters were let go as well, across the board. All hiring was stopped and offers were rescinded. We had two new starters in our team that were on their second month, and they were fired immediately even though they were required head count replacements.
How about offers to new grads? They are supposed to start in July this year.
What about unvested stock if you are retained
Severance will be what your company negotiates. CA was 2 weeks for every year up to 50ish weeks-- this was for 2 years after the aquisition. All stock would immediately vest if you were rif-d so you didn't get scrd out of that. If you are on a term--6-18months, you will get a bonus too--at least CA did.
Broadcom severance: 2 weeks per year of service.
Do you guys know what a severance package might look like with Broadcom?
So how does Broadcom do their severance packages, if any? At VMware, they have historically done a standard severance package (such as two months salary) plus some additional amount of severance for each year of service (such as two weeks per year). Does Broadcom do something similar?
Me too. Cuts were deep. But… I am making way more than I was with CA. It’s really not a bad company. Fast but calculated—it’s the red beast. If you are any level management or not a functional IC, start looking.
