Thread regarding Apache Corp. layoffs

Issues at Apache

  1. Really upset that they’re making us come back into office. The “hybrid” model is really only 1.5 days not 2. Many of us have proved we can do our work from home and have enjoyed MUCH better work/life balance. They couldn’t even wait til the new year/after the holidays to get us back into office, they want us back so badly. Smh.
  1. Did HR even consider what was said on the surveys? I feel like many of us voiced our opinions on working from home(and how much we enjoyed it) and it fell on deaf ears.
  1. Apache is now going to get back a giant amount of workers who are gonna be frustrated in the office knowing they could be doing their work from home. This is just another shot to an already VERY low morale at Apache.
  1. I anticipate more people leaving next year, which means more work for those that are here.

what did @1kmy+1ddvZipL mean when they said not every department is going back to the office? I thought it meant everybody?

I wish at least was Thursday or Monday from home. Not this chopped arrangement.

Mid-level managers need to justify their positions, and lazy employees just want to gab with their office neighbors all day.

Why have anyone in the office at Apache, ever? A pretty subpar company. Surprised it is still in business.

A collaborative effort is lost only if you let it be lost. Collaboration can definitely happen while working from home, saying it can’t happen is just an excuse to try and make an argument for coming back to the office. Besides I don’t know how you expect to collaborate when we have to stay 6 feet apart, can’t have more than 6 people in a conference room and all the other limitations we have. I can honestly say that since we have been back mid year I haven’t personally collaborated with anybody in the office so your “argument” is a moot point because I know plenty of employees that are in the same boat.

Not every department is going back into the office fully. Every man for himself.

you cant deny that there is a collaboratives effort that is lost by not being in the office and seeing people in person. Ideas are shared and developed better in person. And as far as what the employees want...that doesn't carry a lot of weight!!

You are absolutely correct that it is a luxury but like it or not many people have realized that WFH is very possible and doable and it’s something that employees now want. While it sucks for people that couldn’t, many of us realized we could and so did the company and now they are panicking because they know this is another perk that will have to be dangled in front of people to either make them stay or recruit new people. I get the whole you should be grateful and I think the majority of us are but it’s hard to imagine or realize that employee’s being happier and having a better work/life balance to make them more productive wouldn’t be something the executives want. Why would you want a workforce to come into the office simply to check a box but be miserable and unproductive? Supposedly people are Apache’s best asset except when it comes to listening to what they want and what makes them work better or be more productive. I know I get so much more work done and contribute more when I WFH because I don’t have a commute to worry about, I can get on a bit early and stay on a bit later because I’m not having to wake up extra early to avoid traffic or worry about whether or not I’m going to make it home in time to have dinner with my family. Many companies have realized the benefits and recognized that WFH is now a perk that employees are wanting and so that’s going to deeply affect companies like Apache that aren’t more flexible. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the 1-1/2 days we work from home but it’s time to listen to your employee’s because after last years purge this is supposedly the best talent you have and kept so why would you risk losing it.

You know a lot of people did not even get the luxury, and yes it is a luxury, of being hybrid. So maybe you should think about them and stop complaining about your luxury schedule of having to come into the office 3 whopping whole days a week.

While I agree most should be able to wfh, you have to remember we have a 5 year lease on the building and they have to justify the expense. And by doing so, they set a policy that checks both boxes. This hybrid model hasn’t even been in place for a year and they can’t make a business decision based on 4 months of this model. I know it sucks. I prefer to wfh and I’m much more efficient but your options are to stick it out a little longer and see what happens, collect that nice Apache paycheck, or look for other employment options.

I agree, they suck at everything they are doing with this in office/wfh/covid BS.

It’s obvious that they really do not care about the results of any surveys, those are just lip-service, and really a form of psychological manipulation to make us feel like we have a voice and help placate the gullible among us.

At the end of the day, our “leaders” are just going to do what they want, damn the consequences, this isn’t a democracy. They don’t care if people leave either, they see us all as easily replaceable.
