Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Our health insurance is getting worse

I spoke with Aetna yesterday and they have made it clear that ExxonMobil HR has sat down with them and removed several covered benefit from our health and dental insurances for next year. For some, this may be no big deal, but for those of us that need benefits and signed on specifically for benefits, it’s one more way to ExxonMobil is squeezing the life out of its employees. It seems like every penny this company pinches hurts the employee the most.

Company has been reducing benefits to employees for at least the past 15 years.

  • education reimbursement went from unlimited to limited program to no program
  • eliminated AMEX membership rewards program
  • reductions in more expat benefits than I have time to list. Pretty much every benefit reduced or eliminated. Roles now going to BTC rather than “high cost” engineers
  • health and medical insurance costs going up and up
  • etc etc

Right because the government does such an awesome job at everything. Based on my experience with government I want them to do as little as possible. Let’s go Brandon!

So, did you reasonably expect them to increase benefits and not pursue cost cutting initiatives? And this post will do what exactly to improve insurance or your lot in life? If you are competent, capable and competitive, move on to another organization and improve your situation in life. Sniveling does nothing beneficial at all, for anyone. If you are not competent or capable to switch jobs, then deal with the fact you are owned and move forward or do something productive about it. Choice is yours alone to make and you and only you are accountable for your decisions and actions in life.

Company gets huge write-offs providing healthcare in the US.
Who thinks they'd do it otherwise?
Probably get back 2 bucks for every dollar spent in the this circle-jerk of corporate socialism.
Maybe the dental side isn't so lucrative.

They also are reducing fluoride from four times per year to once per year for over 18 years old.

And this is why your healthcare should NOT be tied to your employer. We tried to fix this years ago but certain folks thought it was evil and did everything they could to block it. Reap what you sow.

Why the company doesn't offer an HSA plan is beyond me....they should offer a super high deductible with an HSA. I know a lot of high-income earners looking for additional tax breaks, even if that means paying more out of pocket for healthcare (up to the deductible).

Agreed.
They will continue to chisel away at the loose rocks whereever they can be found.
And it is really not HR doing this - it is external consultants expert in these matters.
Bitewings alone might have paid for their fees in July.

You all are getting lost in the weeds when the point is that they are looking for ways to reduce our benefits. X-rays is just one example. The fact that we are currently not getting raises and our benefits are getting worse instead of better is the real issue. -OP

I think what they are referring to is that once a year you get a look at upper both sides and lower both sides for free. Sounds like we now pay for the other 3. But I am geo so what do I know about teeth! I will show this to my dentist on Monday-she will let me know and I will get back to you!

Not much of a decline there.
I do like my pearly whites - but they don't need to glow in the dark.
