I’m sure almost everyone can testify to how the bosses here are finding ways to get rid of such people. It was shocking to me how they treated one of my colleagues, an expert in his field, who ended up quitting, starting his own business and is doing phenomenal now. Perhaps they are afraid of talented people?

I have the utter misfortune to work in the Mumbai office. No talent whatsoever in that office.
The main problem with most talented people is that they know what they are doing and have become a problem for the a$_ kis_ _ers that have moved up the food chain because of their "special skills."
Therefore, the talented are quickly extracted from the organization before they show up their incompetent bosses for the fools that they are................
That’s id--tic. I’ve been with baker Hughes for 15 years and Baker has had this problem for at least a good 10. It’s well before GE came along. I’m not GR fan but to have an intellectually lazy not thought out response like that is just d-mb.
GE since the time of Tesla considered competent employees a threat. This beast inherited certain prejudices from their HR playbook.
If someone is a key player you begin managing that situation.
Take their direct reports and move them under a new manager then overload them with work. When they complain about working conditions, offer to allow them to train their former direct reports. Wait 6 months and then fire the 'talented' one.
You can't have a business that is hinged upon a person. This management team is very sensitive to that and will act accordingly. Put simply BKR sees the best and brightest as potential liabilities not assets. Works great over the long run ;-D
