It’s cool that Dell specifically stated that hybrid workers would be at less risk of layoffs than full time remote workers, then proceeded to just wholesale lay off 12,500 employees without regard for that statement.
Very trustworthy leadership.

The company has been running with a huge remote workforce for over a decade; it was never a real issue.
The RTO thing seems more like they were trying to su---r people into quitting so they didn't have to pay them severance. They just fired my old manager (hybrid) and assigned me a new one (remote).
If you're good at your job, they don't care if you are remote.
You can keep choosing remote and can see what will happen 6 months later.
Hybrids are wasting/stealing time. Driving to the office at 9am and leaving at 3pm for the day. That's a full 5 hour day if they take lunch.
Hybrid work status will NOT protect you. WFRd hybrid worker myself. High performance will NOT protect you. Got a raise and a boatload of stock 2 months before getting WFRd. Stop saying this was a remote work and low performance action.
The 12,500 number was pure speculation and the press coverage says they can’t confirm it and it’s probably too high. Don’t believe that number.
do you guys really think a remote worker sitting thousands of miles away, taking naps between useless meetings, adds value to the company ?
It sure did say that hybrid would be taken into consideration when we were doing organizational activities. That’s what the layoff is…
@whs+1tTpuyW9 I stand corrected. Thanks for this info.
@ymk+1tTpuyW9 organizational planning exercises are in relation to role/grades required to execute the strategy. Hybrid employees have an advantage to be hired into those roles and promotions etc. The policy says nothing about protection from WFR
But they kind of did: "Hybrid, field and onsite classified team members are likely to have an advantage (compared to remote classified team members not willing to become hybrid) in talent assessments and organizational planning exercises..."
What do you think organizational planning exercises are? Now, "likely" doesn't mean absolute, but I can see people reading the policy and thinking that way.
Ultimately this layoff was about culling a large number of people, regardless of what their classification was. No one was safe outside of Michael Dell and Jeff Clarke.
Dell NEVER stated that hybrid workers would be at less risk oy layoffs. Never.
