@pne+1pbYzHHq why do you think the deal will close on oct 30th?
Seems like China is not approving.
Do you think BC and VMW will run as separate entities in China for a while?

I just think that HT is too smart not to have considered this. There's a 50-50 chance that I'm wrong. Just my gut feel.

We have to accept the fact!
The deal will go through!
They will let go around 15,000 employees during 6 months period.
There will be no EPIC2 after 27th!

I've been a VMware dev for 15+ years and I have no inside information but since everyone else is speculating ....

Sifting through the bits and pieces of information from this site, news article and VMware official channels, and putting it together is a way that makes sense to me, this is what I think will happen (remember this is just my opinion)

Layoff notices:

  1. These will come from VMware but will not go out until the deal closes. It doesn't make sense to send them out before and it fits with everything we have been told.
  2. They will go to your VMware e-mail or Workday. Severance notices can't go to personal e-mail, right?
  3. It will be the standard VMware severance package.

Offer letters:

  1. These will come from Broadcom and will go out before the deal closes.
  2. Since these are coming from Broadcom before the deal closes, they will go to your personal e-mail. This is why VMware has been pushing employees to update their personal info in Workday (I actually got a high-priority e-mail from HR that my personal e-mail in Workday was blank and to update it ASAP).
  3. They will have a short acceptance period so that Broadcom will know who is, and who is not, going to accept. That way Broadcom can offer the position to someone else if you decline.

btw, I also think the deal will close on the 30th. I think HT has been planning this for over two years and he must have considered this possibility, so he must have a plan.

OK, speculation complete. Down vote away :)

China wants to retaliate against US's trade restriction by ruining BC/VMW deal. There's nothing BC can do on that matter. I think BC will eventually give up the deal like Intel and Qualcomm.
We don't have to worry about offer letter anymore.

This is sad! They are not transparent because they don’t care about employees!

October 30 was bulk of offers but that was before biden and this Tuesdays announcement Re China

Next week they will formally announce the delay so we all get to now wait for the chinese government to discover what the future holds

I think if this were actually true (someone got a letter) we’d be seeing more folks chiming in. Also the details don’t fit. VMware is a CA company and has to file a 60 day WARN notice (companies sometime get around this by paying employees for the 60 days without allowing them to work).

My suspicion is that this is on hold until the Chinese approval comes through. It’d be pretty embarrassing if they sent layoff letters and then it didn’t close. Also harmful because people who get those letters would leave even if BC doesn’t buy VMW.

Note that I don’t have any firm evidence for either of these. I’m ambivalent about the whole thing really. If I’m asked to stay I will for a while. If I get severance, that’s fine too. The only outcome I’m opposed to is a temporary offer.

Only one month base? I somehow have difficulty believing that account. But if true then I’m sorry to hear that.

Effective date was nov 1st for the severance. This will give everyone a chance to log their expenses before you get locked out of concur.

Until China's sorted, any discussion on letters is pointless.

Right now Tan is sh-----g bricks that his deal might fall through.

They said mid to late October.

If you don't receive anything by mid to late October, then start asking question.

Until then, practice patience.

100% sure, china will postpone the approval.
bc leaders are struggling now, proceeding and angering china with unknown risk on huge revenue in china, or postponing the deal that are extremely difficult for them as well. my guess is they will postpone, but who knows.

it is very possible that the deal will be postponed, even if it can be closed eventually. so i would expect the letter will also be postponed.
