#3itr I do find the Naga jokes amusing — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYLH4QSKhc0 —but the last thing Naga should do is toe the line. Intel is facing serious challenges, and it’s crucial for him to address the waste, clean up operations, and put Intel on a "diet" to get it in shape. We need a thorough restructuring after each cut phase. Let’s be honest: additional headcount reductions will likely be necessary—perhaps two more after the current upheaval settles (it shouldn’t take three months to reduce the organization). We can’t have a higher headcount than Nvidia, AMD, and TSMC while generating less revenue than AMD and TSMC combined (forget Nvidia; they’re in a league of their own).
We need Naga to bring the disciplined, no-nonsense, data-driven approach that Micron is known for. Micron has managed to thrive even during low-margin periods, with margins as a memory maker currently surpassing Intel’s (thanks in part to the HBM bo-m driven by AI and Nvidia’s success). Intel needs to get in shape quickly or face severe consequences, potentially being split up or sold in pieces, as it’s already showing troubling signs.
I think he is naga work here much longer unless he learns to toe the line.
Every new executive starts with a lot of candor and big promises. What will happen 6 months or a year down the line is what you need to watch for. When his minions first lie to him and miss a deadline, will he also lie to cover it up or brutally expose and mercilessly fire the entrenched patronage structures will be the true test of his character.
My bet is on him being subsumed by the Borg...
