Decisions are made on a base of skills and company needs. Not on acquaintances or cost. Like it or not, the company is as fair as it can be. Don't expect useless projects that simply drain money and productivity.

This might be wrong because the redundancies are not driven by performance. Rather, it is current compensation and required skill sets.
At CA we saw high performers let go and what you call ' the most useless' receive a stay offer because they were simply cheaper.
