Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

CR and ELT largely responsible…

for the destruction of the wonderful organizational culture that characterized Cisco for many years under the leadership of John Chambers. Cisco has always led technologically and made sure to be number 1 or 2 in terms of market share. CR and his ELT have simply destroyed it to the core. The organizational culture has become toxic and cowardly. Yes, it is very sad that we have reached this point and it even seems that we have not reached the bottom yet.

For more than 30 years Cisco acquired its way to where it is, and even its origin story involved stealing hardware and software designs from Stanford. As a customer for more than 30 years the software quality was always extremely poor. Having worked there I know why, and the problems go from the Engineer 1 level all the way to the top. In the past six months people here have developed Stockholm syndrome thinking Cisco used to do no wrong and this is the worst time in modern history to lose the plot.

Too many folks idolizing JC. He really isn't a very smart guy. He surfed the wave till the ocean went dead calm. Folks forget the terrible acquisitions JC made, and how he believed buying Flip cameras was going to boost internet traffic. The stock used to tank every time he opened his mouth. CR made Cisco a strictly finance-driven company. We're obsessed with margins and are incredibly risk averse. Contrast this with the insane innovation pace of nvidia. It's time for CR, G2, LC and many others to go.

This rot is everywhere now. Years of ZIRP have left companies sitting on mountains of cash, and it has just resulted in rot and garbage.

With layoffs, AI and foreign workers, there is no need for these too-rich companies to bother investing in their own employees.

Market capitalism was supposed to be periods of disruption but long-term gains. We've kneecapped it so it is just decade after decade of mediocrity and rot. But hey, everyone beats estimates!

@ak for sure, JC aka The Bumbler 1.0 was one lucky S.O.B. he was not the person who should have been running Cisco after his first 3-4 years. right place, right time does not a visionary make.

it boggled my mind in the 90s when i when i started how many people thought he was a leader. it was clear to me that he was a fool with great timing. he stayed way too long and whiffed on too many obvious tech trends.

i am not at enamored with The Bumbler 2.0. however, i think cisco is finally moving in the right direction.
