Lmao if you think being in Dallas or Atlanta is the safe spot. OP must be from one of those sites to try and act and feel safe. I was in the Dallas retention department and they surplussed us. Dallas had a second office for retention and do you think they offered us to move there? Nope. They offered us Earth City, MO or San Antonio, TX. So get your head out of your @$$ because you're not safe and your time will come soon

Can you tell us how you know your role is not at risk of being moved? I know you said you are not at risk of being surplused - but that is really a separate topic from RTO and possible relocation that will happen if your role is being moved. Perhaps you are saying you know your role is not being moved.

I get the feeling they are expecting a certain amount of people to quit. It more people move to keep their jobs than they are expecting, they will have a surplus to get to that number.
This is just what they are counting on. They want upheaval. They want us angry and worried and out of sorts. It’s like a war has been waged against us. I think they get off on it. Let’s face it, AT&T is a joke. The victors will be those of us who tell them where to put the RTO and hub demands and all the other nonsense and walk away from the disgrace this hole of place has become. Who wants to follow an incompetent and arrogant hack who IS the problem. I’m not doing it anymore. He never learned that people don’t work for you. Only with or against you. I’m sure not with him so I’m done. I tried. I feel foolish that I did but I really tried to believe maybe things would improve. It’s truly embarrassing. I have loved my career. I feel blessed that I am in a position to leave of my own volition. I know a lot of people cannot and I’m sorry for that. I’ve been loyal, worked early and late, sucked it up when I was fed up, been supportive of teams I’ve been on, covered for bosses and coworkers, but this sh&t takes the cake. I know that most of you could say the same thing. I am heading out the door (btw…I’m not impacted by the RTO/HUB cr-p….I’m good, as is and not currently in jeopardy of being surplussed). I’m not enjoying work anymore or watching my friends anguish day after day wondering when the next ax will fall. It’s time for me to go. Hang in there. Don’t let anyone victimize you. Do what’s best for you and yours and just keep moving forward. That’s what good people do.
Sure. Turn your entire life into chaos to move to either Dallas or Atlanta then face another round of job uncertainty and layoffs six months after settling in, only to find you now live in a state with next to no level of support for unemployed people because their governments consider anyone without a job to be freeloaders.
What could go wrong?
I mentioned something in another post about this being cyclic like everything. It was more in the context of RTO, but it makes your point. Loyalty has to work both ways. It hasn't for a long time there.
It's hard to envision something else for yourself when you have been entrenched in a company and culture(even a toxic one) for 20+ years. Regardless of how hard you work, you still have a tendency to become complacent (speaking from personal experience).
Why? Change is stressful even though it is needed for growth and people fear the unknown. I was shocked by some of my former colleagues last year that were eligible to retire and didn't when the interest rate segments were far more favorable especially since it was obvious before the changes in retiree benefits in 2020/2021, they wanted people to leave.
I did not make the decision to leave in 2021 easily(I was a L3). But, financially I am far better off now, and mentally I know what is possible. Even those struggling between moving in hopes of lasting to pension eligibility or leaving, seriously need to consider options before moving. Once you leave, and land on your feet you won't regret it, and you'll ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner.
Why anyone would lift up their entire lives and relocate just to keep their "job" is unbelievable! They are way too dependent on a company rather than trust themselves that they can get another job or even start a business. The indoctrination has worked wonderfully if that is the case.
