This site is becoming another place for people to just p$&# on each other’s opinions . And those opinions are not even about the subject matter this website was created for .......
How about all the amateur doctors, scientists and mathematicians go somewhere else for their soap box speeches .

To the responder who said "Are you serious?? You are aware that COVID-19 currently has a 10% death rate, right? Do the math, there are 69K people in Italy that have it and just over 6,800 have died........that is 10%. China had a lower death rate because they told everyone to stay home. Italy on the other hand acted just like we are doing right now, not taking it seriously enough."

The lockdown approach in China impacted the infection rate, not the death rate (at least when split by demographic makeup). The biggest drivers of the reported death rates are (1) the breadth of testing (countries that tested only the very sick will have a higher reported death rate vs. those that tested asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients, and (2) the societal makeup of the confirmed infected population (are they older or younger, have pre-existing conditions, etc.) That doesn't mean the decision to keep stores open is a smart one (I don't believe it is), but at least use facts and logic rather than overly simplistic analysis to make your argument.

1koy+148NjrYp your 10% is wrong.

You have to calculate it by the total number of deaths by the total number of recovered.

You can't do it by total cases because people still infected could still die.

Should we shut down for the entire winter every year because of the flu? Thousands of people die of the flu every year even with a vaccine that is 30% effective. It is extremely rare for someone under the age of 60 with no underlying health issues to die from corona. The median age in the U.S. is 38 and in Italy it is 47. 85.6% of the fatalities are over the age of 70 in Italy. Most people over the age of 70 are retired and thus not contributing to the economy. We need to have common sense measures. The government may be giving $2 trillion into the economy, but that isn't money they really have. We are at $23.6 trillion dollars in debt. Eventually the great depression of the 1930s will look like the economic boom of the 1990s for us.

No he is right about the death rate, because the amount of infected people is not accurate at all. It's estimated that 20 times more people are infected, but are not tested because they don't have severe symptoms.

No one in the world has any immunity against this, unless you have had it and survived. No vaccine yet. According to WHO the demographics of what ages are getting it and who is dying form it are changing as it spreads. The ages of the people that are dying from it are getting younger since it spread from China. The current average age is now 55.

As to those that are younger, they are carriers of the virus. they may not exhibit symptoms but they are capable of infecting others. That is why the schools are shut down or are you too stupid to realize that?

Not really sure what the point of closing the stores would be. This is going to go on for at least another month or two so we should keep stores closed for that long? The fact of the matter is that people over the age of 70 or with underlying health issues should stay home and many are already retired anyway. If this continues past April all will be lost. We are talking about a .5% death rate of people tested. We didn't shut the economy down for the swine flu pandemic and we need to get things back up and running again very soon.
