Being a manager

It is quite certain that it was better to work here a few years ago than it is now. I may be exaggerating, but I think the opposite is true in the case of management, it is easier to be a manager here now than ever before. What do you think?

@wve Thank you for making the point on why NO ONE wants to be a manager at the UP. If the management side was cut deeper than any other department, then why is there so many managers to regular employees? I'm not sure where you got your info from, but the majority of the13k or so employees cut from the company intially were the boots on the ground. Can you guess how many of the folks quitting daily are managers? Yeah not as many as you'd think. This question has been brought up many many times, but what exactly do the managers do? I only ask that since you seem to want to defend the managers. Please keep in mind that the UP is in the shape its in because of the managerial decisions that were made. Also remember that people are quitting daily because of managerial decisions. Now ask yourself if defending the management team is a smart thing to do. The management team caused all of the problems at the UP.

It’s always been easy to be a UP manager.. It’s easier now, because they manage less employees

I remember when managers had to take 1 week per month of unpaid leave .It might have been the summer of 2020.

I never wanted to work in mgt. I enjoy paid overtime , better priced insurance. Being off duty for holidays, vacations and weekends. Managers can be fired or demoted for any reason.

I think you are an id--t. The managers were cut more than any other group. Most, especially transportation work 80-90 hours or more per week. The older ones are trying to hold on long enough to retire and the younger ones don’t stay with the company very long. You obviously have never been a manager or are just trying to stir the pot. It’s apparent you have no first hand knowledge of the jobs or the demands placed on the managers, especially the middle and lower level managers.
