Do you think it’s worth working for this company any longer?

All jokes aside, the union destroyed any chances of the company extending their contracts. Some of the dumbest leadership I have ever seen even compared to FTR management. Why would you pay dues only to be in this position? Plenty of jobs out there not sure how its worth wasting your time and especially your money paying union dues for a completely failed company. Cletus is out here wearing out the knees of his jeans working on a useless deal to keep the dues rollin in, hope that card he carries has some trade in value.
Agree. very fortunate to receive this job with GTE/Verizon/BankruptFTR too bad this is going on. But then again there are senior guys that should have left, will lose out on a lot of money. Good luck getting through Milliman and getting the money.
Hey guys. I retired Jan 2020. Took my lump sum and 401k. Was a czt 2 for 25 years. 15 techs in my work group and only one with a college degree. I had a associate's degree in electronics. Dont be angry with what is going on. You were fortunate to get this job. What made you think anything is owed to you. Work hard and suck it up or leave. I know it's tough to hear this because you have grown soft and lazy. You make 60 to 70 k but dont want to raise minimum wage to 15$. Get educated. It's not as easy as u think. You want things handed to you but not to anyone else. Have a good day and quit stressing out. When u stop blaming others for ur mistakes you made growing up you will become a real man. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.
The company still has room for growth. Until then jump on the education benefits. Go study whatever your heart desires or whatever you think will give your career an upgrade. Do it on their dime. If things do go bad then take your new skills and degrees and find something better.
At this point, I'm sticking around long enough to see this upper management gone for what they've done. They thought they were going to be the first team to find a way to be successful with 50 year old copper by saying, " better do it or get in trouble".lol. We need leadership that listens to their employees.
Difficult for managers to lead when their not motivated and half speak broken english. Tell me I'm wrong
Well said, evolve with your career or become irrelevant and d-e. I have seen too many people become complacent and have no interest in growing. All of that copper and TDM is going to d-e off, it's happening now. They have no skills and cannot grow or move on externally.
Code sourcing–Network security– are 2 major applications and to add the most relevant tech now is securing data. Case in point current build outs of medical data centers right now HUGE, HUGE CAROLINE.Installation, maintenance and testing from structured cabling 2 server
Non travel work/ work from home- ETHICAL HACKING CIA TRIAD. Shortage now and for at least the next 5-10 yrs.
Im seeing an ungodly amount traffic for medical at this time due to the pandemic and a pivot of the US ditching contractors oversees and bringing this portion back here at home. These projects can be a one time option from 10k on up or you could work one portion of the puzzle and last a yr and be WELL COMPENSATED 70 and up. My experience isn't in medical but real-estate so unsure how in depth that side is since COVID has created a whole new platform and details arent given until hired/thoroughly vetted.
Just remember A/I is here which means anything b4 AI is old news. Doesn't mean the old is relevant though.
Nobody is going no where.....
Ok maybe management they do have the software for that.

Been saying the same thing to friends and co-workers since this all started! Thank you for bringing to reality of the industry to the naysayers!
h–l of a response. Thank you
WELL DAMN i need to keep this thread going. i could not have imagined finding this type of comments in here
fell off the chair reading this— no bashing no negativity
Previous employee (not a spvr or a ccompany tech)
Young man seems as though you are a little rattled by the chatter within your day to day brushes with union and non union people. Understand this, telco has had a history of winding down since MA BELL BREAK UPS. This goes back when the government was funding NASA which in return was funding technology just as we are doing now with the start up of sending missions into orbit. Anytime this happens technology takes a leap forward. With that being said you need to start paying attention to the next gen of telecom/tech. This will tell you what direction you need to take for your future and your family as well. Dont get caught up in the chatter. Frontier will be around and so will your job. It may change names but the fact is you will still have a job. Yes you will take some gains as well as losses. This is common in this era look around you as its happening to major companies daily. Dont get caught up in the distractions. You have no control. Understand you are living in a time where things are changing. Change is good as it keeps a fresh understanding that you always need to pivot just as the people you work for are doing.
The fact is it takes more money to convert fiber in the TELECOM industry than COAX industry. With that said, time in this situation is probably not a retirement plan. Educate yourself while still employed. Honest days work for honest days pay mentality will allow you to draw a living for your family while educating yourself for the future so you always have viable income.
All around the county there are co-ops ( a percentage of employees and a percentage of contractors) that have been in play for years and some just coming into play. Grandstanding during a restructuring process will not help your cause. I see the workforce here in these threads are h–l bent on what they want rather than a understanding of change is here and you can't stop it. I have worked as a w2 for many years and have crossed over to a 1099 as well help setting up roll outs of co-ops. Turned coax w2s into splicers, I/R, CO techs and the list goes on. Majority w2s recognized us and accepted us knowing we were there to help. There were some that had old school mentality but eventually they understood we were no threat to their cause. With that said you have time but that hourglass sand is is picking up pace. There will be a conversion. Here me out. There is a application that applies cell sites and satellite infrastructure that ties into telecom fiber. This could be perfect timing for Frontier as well techs in the field. Thats what im seeing from other telecom entities but dont know Frontiers plan of action. Keep working a honest day, dont get caught up in the contract chatter, you will lose focus as its human nature. All i can say working around the us and internationally contractors are here to stay and majority are here to help and move on thats what we do. Frontier is not a monster and the UNION isnt THE HULK muscle will not stop a transition that is already in play.
Code sourcing–Network security– are 2 major applications that are in HUGE demand that you can work and school yourself within a year or less (depends on your dedicated input) through COUSERA etc... that once you complete the course your results are sent to major tech companies that will hire immediately after passing making 6 figures working from home or in the field.
Understand you live in a state where the market is slower compared to states that have major/cities (i.e ATLANTA, DALLAS, HOUSTON, NJ/NY and the list goes on) which will place you in a home office setting. There is a play where coding and other tech jobs that will mesh with telecom creating hi-tech-high paying jobs but that platform is still in the adolescent stages.
Bottom line
go to work and educate after work and let the rest work THEMSELVES out
Frontier has no feelings toward you its business as usual B.A.U and the others that are members of the union well they pay the hall to fight not you. Dont lose focus
The company itself has a lot of potential. However with all of this going on and the ineptitude of upper management I think they will start bleeding junior people as well as any one with any sort of skills and education. I'm going to take advantage of their education program and re up all my certs to expand my own options in the next few months.
