unless you're new with less than 2 years seniority you shouldn't worry about layoffs. even the announced 10% will be temporary one.

No problem brother, apology accepted & you have mine in return, thanks for pointing out something I’m increasingly guilty of these days, being fed up & negative around the newer crowd. It IS tough, when you still care. I would be lying if I said Boeing hasn’t been good to me. It’s helped me build a good life & take care of my family. Good money & medical for all. A decent pension ( up to 2016 ) & VIP etc. I absolutely still take pride in doing the best job I can every day, building an extremely important product. My work ethic hasn’t wavered since the day I started all bright eyed & optimistic nearly a quarter of a century ago. I guess that’s why I’m so disgusted anymore, looking at what this once great company has become. Make no mistake, Calhoun & Co. are simply a continuation of Stonecipher/Welch/McNerney/Connor etc. & it’s a damn shame. Anyone that knows what I’m talking about surely must agree. I’m unfortunately just a few years shy of being in a position to take the VLO right now, otherwise I would. Lots of good younger will go out the door & it’s a true shame. C19 isn’t responsible for all of this; two years ago Boeing had the $$ & clout & could’ve weathered this downturn, but they chose to invest in their personal portfolios rather than the Co. & the people.... & here we are.
To all of us who are going to be effected by this: hang in there & stay positive. This place doesn’t define your existence, was all I really meant. Take care.
I do remember the pre-merger times and yes it was a much better company and environment to be in.
My point was basically that not everyone has been there as long. A lot have no idea what it use to be like. They only know now. Which does s— but we have to make the best of what we have. Yes it’s turned into a profit/greed first, product and employee last place.
But just for the newer people that are trying to make a career out of it. Putting everything into it and take pride in the product and themselves. They don’t understand the disgruntled ones like us who’ve seen both ends of it.
The current state of the company is why I’m stepping away. It has become too difficult to try and show up daily with any sense of pride or go home feeling good about the place anymore. But I try to not show it to those that are trying hard or just starting out.
I was wrong for calling your opinion stupid and I apologize. We all have different thoughts on the company.
Take care
FYI, I have made a career out of it. Been here since pre-merger. I remember when the whole workforce took pride in the indispensable product we made. The company was a different company then, too. Not sure if you remember that or not. I do not place my whole future & livelihood on any company, or a product. I place it on myself & my own personal decisions. A bunch of greedy out-of-touch billionaires sitting in their ivory towers making decisions that benefit THEM, not you or I, or the general public for that matter, are not going to determine my future. Of course I take pride in doing a good job & building a fantastic product. Somewhere along the line though (specifically when McD took over) the wonderful company I work for lost the plot.Ut’s not my fault or yours, or anyone else that’s here, really. We don’t matter anymore. Again, do you remember when we did? I do. The company valued it’s workforce at one time & put the product 1st. We built the best. Then the bean counters took over & $$ got the best of all those calling the shots. That became the #1 focus. Look where we’re at today as a result of those decisions. So no, I don’t care that you think my comment is dumb. I do not put my faith or my livelihood behind a company that does not care about the quality of it’s product anymore. They can say whatever they want, the flying public knows better.
What a dumb comment(s). Why are people fools for putting faith in a product or their careers? Sure it’s just a company but it’s completely rational to take pride in the job you do. It’s peoples lives. If your the type that jumps around care free from job to job then more power to you. It’s called having a career.
It took a pandemic to shut it all down to a crawl. Before that yes the company was dealing with serious problems. You can point at the Max, the this, the that. Nobody could have predicted a pandemic to shut down everything.
Before it, Boeing along with other manufacturers of all types were not about to lose it’s market or customer base for the next multiple years. Same goes for small businesses, restaurants...so their fools too I suppose?
Layoffs and cuts that potentially will go deep were not happening.
If ya don’t like it, don’t work there. But don’t criticize those of us that make a career of something.
Very well said indeed. Anyone who banks their entire future on any company that produces a product, any product....better be prepared when said product is no longer needed/wanted. Of course Boeing will bounce back; no one else to fill their shoes. But it'll be awhile.
Well said
These id–ts have to be to full Of b—s—’ Boeing is just a company, really you put all your life dependency on Boeing, you the fool!

For once someone who doesn’t have to make cracks about someone who’s newer so therefore inferior.
Thank you
Whoever downvotes this is obviously one of the old head lazy asses
As said previously....10% or 15% affects a lot of people. They’re no less than any of us who don’t fall into that percentage. They have less seniority, less experience, that’s it. There’s good and bad mechanics of all seniority and honestly it would be nice to base layoffs off who actually works and who’s a lazy t–d that instead.
Boo....hiss... yeah whatever. We were all new at one time. A lot have been in the lay-off bubble. I’m sorry if you get affected by the layoffs....yes there’ll be call backs but it’ll take time. I currently work with several people that work their butts off that will most likely get cut. It s—s. I wish the best for any and all.
All of IT org is surplus
You are right. Nothing to see here. All is great. Let's celebrate!

Don't forget about this quote
"We will continue to share with you as we assess the need for further actions throughout the year"

It is 10% overall for the whole company. The note that went out to employees today said that the percentages will be more than 15% for Boeing Commercial Aircraft, Boeing Global Services, and corporate functions. BDS is expected to end 2020 with more people than less, even though will likely do some ILOs too. Yes the cuts will be based on seniority for the union folks, but there are alot of non-union folks and the cuts will be much more unpredictable. I pray for any of the Boeing folks laid off, young or old, whatever division... if they aren't in a position financially to retire. I can't even imagine trying to find a new job in this economy... and especially the older folks, with mortgages and kids who can't move in with their parents. This is the worst economy since the Great Depression - God Help all the folks who aren't rich execs...
It ain’t that bad? Pretty self centered. It can be really bad if you are part of the 10%.
Oh, ILO isn’t bad. It is great for stock price. Just ask one of the clowns in a prior post. Nobody panic. You will still get money for years worked. Unemployment is still paying. And, with any luck, guaranteed basic income is just around the corner!
10% due to federal bailout stipulations through September. Expect next round of layoffs in October.
The VLO was supposedly sent to 70,000 employees. How many take it will dictate who gets WARN notices on 6-1.
You are right, even 10 years is temporary.
Any ILO is bad. Even if it is temporary.
