Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Any pro tips for those getting impacted?

I've never been at a company when it was doing layoffs. Any words of wisdom from those who have been through this sort of thing before?

Apply for Unemployment (Oregon is generous) medical - ACA or Medicaid. Duck Cobra. Negotiate instead to pay you lumpsum instead of Cobra

Question if I get ISP, is non- solicitation clause in force? I.e. can former Intel who've landed somewhere hire me? Can I get solicited before I got layoff?

Stellar advice, up until the LHH. They are a garbage! I worked through them several years ago and quickly discovered that they know nothing about crafting resumes & updating skills for interviewing. After being hired by a new company, using my own version of my resume, I showed my new manager the "professional resume" LHH had written for me. He looked utterly shocked and told me straight out that I would never had made past their screener--"that is complete sh-t!" he exclaimed.

Be sure to behave yourself on your way out and don't burn any bridges. Folks do stupid things and will lose their separation and reputation. Be a grown up, these things happen everywhere and it doesn't mean things are over.

If they are truly expecting people to have Stockholm syndrome enough to work through the end of the year after being given an ISP… don’t do anything overtly illegal. Don’t steal, don’t mass delete anything. They will try to claw back the pay if you are a no-show or aren’t even pretending to work, or are massively disruptive.

If you want some small revenge and need the 2 months of pay, obfuscate your responsibilities or do a sh-t job of passing them off if you dislike your coworkers.

If you don’t need the 2 months of pay or a package or whatever, just ghost the company. They don’t deserve a clean transistion; know your rights in your state or country and operate accordingly. Make them wait months before you give back your laptop, badge, etc.

Go home and boil some eggs to see if you pass the egg test.

@wgu+1uZS9A9 is great advice but you have to think about it 20 years before being 'impacted'. Intel has been a GPTW for people who want to save a lot of money while living comfortably as long as you avoid extravagances. But not sure if still will continue to be for people starting now, or even people who started 10 years ago.

You’ll have to work more than part time and do more than a few PPTs to make around 200k now. Sorry.

Get emails of people who you think may have some good employment contacts for you. People at work may also lose their job or they may have family or friends they can refer you to. If you're ISP'd you're going to have to get out there and start networking. It's easier to have someone refer you than have your resume in a pool with thousands of other newly unemployed intel folks. Even if you don't get ISP, you should start looking. After close to 20 years, I took ERP. I've seen this company decline so much since Pat came back. It's not going to get better, he ran it to the ground, beyond repair.

Don’t buy anything with Intel on it since it hit you first. You need to hit back and buy its competitor products. Tell everyone you know stay away from Intel. Fair enough? That will make you happier in the long run and you will be glad that you are no longer be part of a failing corporation.

In today's economic climate, my advice is to live frugally. Don't buy garbage you can't afford or don't need. Avoid consumer debt like cars, boats, credit cards, personal loans etc. A mortgage is okay but don't buy bigger/more expensive than you need. Invest every dime you can live w/out. This will allow you to escape the rat race quicker than most people. Then you can stop worrying about corporate BS and job security with a fair amount of life left. In the mean time, if you can, try not to stress. It's unhealthy and won't do any good. Be cautious of rumors & consipracy theories, most people are full of BS.
ps, If you get let go, Intel will provide you with a career transition service called LHH. They will help create/edit your resume and help you find a new job.

Probably not a good time to ask your boss about a raise.

Find your nearest unemployment office, food bank, and health and human services department, you'll need them faster than you think and they don't teach you about them in college. Also, look at the SNAP website for food stamps. The faster you apply the better. Don't worry about your friends laughing at you, they will be starvig soon and will be begging you for food.

Sh-t happens? I’ve been through many of these at all companies I’ve worked for. It’ll be a mess for a few months, even worse than now afterwards. There are still things potentially to be chopped so this likely isn’t the end, just the largest chunk in this series.
