I am a bit shocked to receive this rating despite the fact that I worked quite hard this year. Worried this is going to impact my future prospects at Citi. How bad is this rating?

Thank you Post ID: @2gib+1q2q9y4M . What you said was exactly what I was thinking about Post ID: @2oyd+1q2q9y4M : Regarding researching the titles ! Job applicants DO read the job descriptions and the titles. Citi HR embellishes the job descriptions to make it seem like the job is more than it is or is at the same level as in Real, Profitable Companies like JPMorgan Chase, BofA, Goldman, etc.. As others have posted, they too noticed that a Citi VP is a half-witted bozo who needs hand-holding like an intern and more like an AVP or worse yet an Analyst in JPMC, Goldman, BofA etc.. Same with Citi SVP is a VP at Citi's Profitable Competitors. Citi is so sad, pitiful and pathetic. With reference to Post ID: @2oyd+1q2q9y4M 's comments about promotions due to tenure or in-seat promotions, JPMC, Goldman, BofA, Morgan Stanley etc. Promote In-Seat Unlike Citi. Unlike Citi, they're Profitable and Successful and so, they must be doing something Right or several things Right. Since Citi idolizes and worships its G0ds JPMorgan Chase, BofA, Goldman etc.. Citi should take a Page or Several Pages Out of Citi's G0d's Playbook by Promoting due to tenure which are some of the infinite attributes of its Successful Competitors that Citi should emulate! AND FYI, the VOE that Citi spends Shareholders' Money on every year is meant as a roadmap to tell Citi what, how and where to CHANGE FOR the World, its Clients, Current Employees-Svckers, and Prospective Employees, NOT the other way around! Citi wants its Employees to change for Citi, when the OPPOSITE should and must happen. Citi is using or believes the VOE is a tool to get its Employees and Clients to Change for and Bend to Citi's Will. NOT !!! Wrong Premise from the Non-Sequitur Joke "bank" that has TEN Citi Genius Employees (the half-witted B0zos other posters referred to) who mistakenly wired out US$900 Million Free Money to Revlon's creditors! LOL!
As others have posted, HR is NOT your friend or ally. They work for the Company, and Not even for the CEO. HR and the Legal Dept. will protect the Company at all and any cost even if the Company is blatantly wrong. It's their job. That's why employees need to hire their own Employment Lawyer. Never trust HR. AND be aware NOTHING you tell them is confidential. HR is FEARED NOT liked, admired or respected.
Post ID: @ifp+1q5ZgU8W And so Citi HR is confirming what employees already know: Citi spews the BullSh!+ song and dance of individual merit-based work, Team work and collaboration, but Employees are Graded/Rated based on a curve relative to their co-workers. So even if the Employee did exemplary work over and above their job description and expectations, the Employees will Still be compared to their Co-workers! This scenario and setup cooked up by myopic, Braindead Citi inherently leads to Employees Not helping each other or collaborating. It's Darwinian Survival of the Fittest, and the Law of the Jungle. Citi must stop Lying and denying this! Employees are aware of Sh!t Show.
Post ID: @yjl+1q5ZgU8W : Doing your work like a little drone should be considered exceeding expectations if you have done it really well, without even doing anything in addition to that. And also, ratings are given in comparison with peers - if the majority of your colleagues are s**t and fail at even the simplest everyday tasks than you can and should easily get 2 and even 1.
Post ID: @wef+1q5ZgU8W Seems like Nerves were touched and the Poster is also in every thread and post. Else how would the poster know or arrive at such a weird assumption. That's some strong Citi Cr@ck being smoked and po!soned Citi Koolaid ! LOL ! Thanks HR ! LOL !
Look people, a 3 rating is standard. It's a good rating. You will really have to exceed expectations and go out of your way to get a 2 in either of the HOW/WHAT categories. That's because it determines compensation and they don't just hand them out because you did all your work like a good little drone. Your managers manager and HR get their grubby hands in the pot and only allow a certain amount of 2 ratings overall.
Do you work for Citi? Are you ok? You are in every post and your BullSh!t is so Hot and piled so High, it's taller than Mount Mauna Kea in Hawaii (world's highest mountain) and spews More BullSH!t than the world's worst volcano, Mount Tambora in Indonesia (caused 92,000 De@ths)!
What is a 3/4 rating?
Insert bell curve skewed toward 4s and 5s......bankers. lol
Not everyone on a team can be a 2. Just because you think you worked hard may not translate into exceeding expectations. There will always be one person who will blow the curve for others. And just because you were a 2 last year doesn’t mean you will continue to be a 2. Someone who was a 3 last year could be knocking it out of the ball park this year and you were just sliding along. It’s reality . And if HR was any good, they would expect to see folks moving along the bell curve regularly, that is called growth and development.
I got 2/2 last year, but my boss this year told me they are only allowed to give out two 2s within a group of about 20+ people. Everyone else has to be a 3 or worse. The company did this to stop the growth of wages since ratings and compensation are linked.
The message was you are a 2 but HR told me to adjust to 3.
VOE will be responded accordingly.
HR this year came out with percentages that encouraged managers to operate on a bell curve. Managers took that as a mandate and calibrated everyone in their orgs and basically forced people into 3 ratings that didn’t deserve it. We were basically told that a 1 rating is nigh on impossible, you basically have to fill in for your own boss for most of the year or something to get that. 2 ratings they calibrated against the level above you and if managers couldn’t justify why your work wasn’t just meeting the expectations of your role, they forced a 3. It was utter cr-p and from what is circulating, direct manager commentary does not reflect or support the numerical rating.
A 3 is a good rating. You're doing your job, not below their expectations to put you on a pip. I mean JC. Be happy. Three is good.
This rating system is big time BS.
@OP - 3 rating is not a problem to get internal jobs
I’ve gotten 2/2 and even a 1 (what)/ 2 (how) before. It’s not that uncommon, probably 20% get a 2 on at least one of the two ratings. What’s harder (and more rare) is a 1/1. Maybe 10% tops.
This year there was said to be an element of ‘forced rankings’ depending on the size and function of your organization. In many cases, a$$lickers who ingratiate themselves with senior leadership by volunteering to create process oriented PPT decks and ‘mentoring’ sessions devoid of legitimate knowledge based content seem to perform well in the ‘Leadership’ pillar. I have too much self respect to play that game - I work to produce mistake free outcomes and generally ignore the political side of the equation.
I would like to find out what the "true" figure is, but 65% (quoted above) for 3 sounds too low. From what my department was told -- and who knows how much of this was just nonsense to lower our expectations? -- a 3 means that you are doing a good (not average) job and that that is what you should hope/expect to get. They made it sound like 2s will only be given out in rare cases. Obviously: in any event, they like who they like and can only give $$$ to those people who get high ratings. Hence, if they want to pay you, the sole way of being able to do that is through higher ratings.
Haven’t gotten mine yet, but heard they are sticking hard to at least 65% 3/3 this year. The last few years I’ve gotten 2/2, 2/1, 3/2…. But we’ll see. Your rating wouldn’t be limited by you being at the top of your range, just your merit increase would be limited.
Did you read the Threads on this Site about Ratings and evaluations?? No sense on replying and rehashing what's already been written about.
This is my second year getting an eval, I was told last year due to being at almost the max pay for my scale I couldn't get above a 3. My comments from management is I'm perfect and everything I do is great but still got a 3. I don't even know how anyone gets a 1 from my time ive never heard of anyone getting a 1. So I wouldn't be too held up on the score as long as you don't get a 4.
You already got your year end rating?
You will live. You have to be extraordinary and have to have extraordinary relationship with your leadership team to get a 2.
