Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

If you hate working here so much, why do you fear layoffs?

This is an honest question. I see so much hate on this board and it makes me wonder what are people still doing here if they are that unhappy? If nothing else, a layoff would give you enough in a way of severance to have a few months to find a job where hopefully you'd be happy. So why dread it so much?

OXY management does NOT communicate at all with employees no such thing as a town no live questions Because VH cannot Handel decent.
You cannot Handel the truth! (OXY compensation >30% less than industry average why would you do that) There are legit issues & questions that have gone unanswered from management no wonder LAPC are leaving in large numbers.
Hey LOXY last week 70 LAPC employees RESIGNED..
Last week!!!!!!!!!!!! Are submitted for Retirement, what the heck does that tell the LOXY? the end is near get a grip and get out before it’s to late because executives took care of each other last week with the CIC package aka golden parachutes!

What we fear worse than a layoff: being forced out with no package and leaving a lot of $ on the table, like what happened to the long time LAPC people when their pensions were threatened by Oxy last month.
They’re all “retiring” but many are nowhere near retirement age, and had no choice but to leave or lose significant value in their pension. SHADY SHADY SHADY to force people out like that and at the same time label them as ineligible to raise their hand for VSP.

Agree with @wdy. I don't fear the layoffs. I beg for them to happen. But so far we have been excluded from the VSP, from the volunteer "name your price," and any way to receive a package to leave. I would love to be laid off. Regardless, I will leave Oxy someday, and the sooner the better. But without a severance package, I won't be leaving until I have another job lined up.

Because watching some w—rrs tear down everything you've worked years for is emotionally exhausting.

And the oil market is and will continue to be c-ap. So those who can leave do, but if you have a family and kids in school, you can't afford the risk of taking a year or more off.

I don’t think many of the people expressing concern about layoffs are the same expressing contempt. Dislike for the company is not mutually exclusive from fearing layoffs anyway. We can be angry at leadership while at the same time wanting time keep our jobs.
