Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

10/12 Big Layoffs

Have heard from several credible sources that 10/12 there will be significant restructuring with the team. At this point, am aware that several leaders will be impacted. However, am unsure to what extent the cuts will go. Expect it to be big.

Something is happening. I have heard about something in Feburary, but have also heard that Accredo might be doing something soon too.

On the marketing town hall earlier, someone asked about future layoffs. Leadership basically was like "well we can't confirm BUT WE ALSO CAN'T DENY, it's based on business needs, etc. etc." I'm taking it as a confirmation of upcoming layoffs.

I was laid off in October. My paperwork showed the dates we'd get severance, which included Nov 10th.
I received my final check (non severance I finally figured out) on the friday - the 3rd.)
Nothing on the 10th, which means it was 3 weeks before supposedly my first severance check this friday.
I called the service desk, totally not helpful.

It will likely include other areas as well, but since there is a focus on 1/1, several areas will be excluded. There will be another round in February which I would imagine would target those areas excluded due to 1/1 focus.

Is the 1/1 focus cleaning up the Medicare business for sale?

Responding to the new overseas employees comments.
There are an insane amount of new ones coming in, and older CSC agents being fired/quitting.
A lot of the overseas people are giving me bad vibes. As they will get mad if I offer to open a ticket and tell me not to. (Usually because they're lying about their issue)
Or they will provide false information, then you'll hear someone in the background provide them another employee ID to try.
They are sharing information and being a HUGE security risk to the company, which at this point I just find hilarious.
The overseas new hires are not trained well, they're stealing information and sharing it, and actively avoid work.

Replying to "I’m in Quality, they’ll surprise us with new employees, all overseas. I didn’t even know we were needing more people. Very nervous and been in talks for months about offshore taking our positions. They get paid by audit also, not hourly."

If you're in Medicare side, I assume you are "safe" as CMS requires work to be done onshore. If Commercial or ESI, I can see Cigna pulling as fast one on us and delegating offshore.

People have been mentioning the WARN Act. I'm not in legal, but from what I can gather, it seems a company cannot lay off 500 or more employees within a 30 day period without WARN obligations arising. From what we're hearing, it seems much more than 500 employees were terminated within a month.

Can anyone with expertise comment on this? Could WARN be circumvented if the number of layoffs are distributed among the 3 different Cigna groups (Cigna Group, Cigna Healthcare, Evernorth)?

Cigna has turned into a JOKE of an employer. It's not the same company as when I was hired. Treatment of employees has gone down the drain, we are metricked to death while lazy people are advanced. They expect to have robots- some jobs requiring metrics of 99% or higher (current role requires 99% accuracy while higher roles have no responsibility to metrics yet receive THOUSANDS in bonuses) Good hardworking employees aren't rewarded and are often and frequently overlooked. Abusive people are put into roles of management/mentorship. In order to earn a measly 3% yearly raise we are expected to work ourselves to the point of exhaustion/burnout. If we don't make Cigna our main priority for management to see, then you're not given compensation meeting your work. We pay out the a-s for our benefits, while we have high deductibles/out of pockets- its a monopoly as we're not given other choices for coverage.
Yes we receive a lot of PTO, because we are expected to work ourselves to the point of NEEDING to take that much time off in order to keep performing our jobs. Most of our roles are severely underpaid and not close to our market value. Managers have a site with the names of employees for the layoffs.

The CEO and upper mgmt should be restructured. If the CEO gave up some of his millions in salary- it would save jobs. And yes, many of our jobs are being shipped overseas.

I’m sure layoffs on 11/9 will be just like 10/12 where they take some from almost every department in order to make it look minimal. Sad that the 10/12 whistle blower remains silent and is no longer forthcoming with information. It would really help us prepare if we had some details on what to expect.

There has been an influx of new hires that are all from overseas. It seems they are just outsourcing all the jobs to underpaid workers.

This layoff is a pivotal moment for me. Before the layoff, I would feel guilty if i didn't go the extra mile in everything I do. If I had extra time, I would proactively reach out to colleagues or my manager to see what else I could do to help out. Even after FOW, I still had a strong work drive. Since 10/12, I just lost that ambition. I saw good hard working people with many years of experience just disappear. Many of these people I looked up to. What's the point of going above and beyond for a company that cares more about their bottom line than the hard working employees. With more layoffs looming, I see no point of burning myself out anymore. I'm just doing enough to get my job done and nothing more.

High band 5 here and I was laid off on Oct 12th. I was blindsided. The Managing Directors/Sr Directors/VPs are well informed in advance. Typically, the lowest ranked employees per band are first laid off; however, this phase doesn’t fit the ‘typical’ narrative. Anyone feeling sui-idal or despondent, please connect with family/friends bc you do matter! There are better things to come.

Question: how did they determine who would be laid off? Years of service? Job performance? It all seemed random

All of it is true. I received my termination on Thursday! This has been in the works fir about 9 months now, and yet all those that were laid off were blindsided. They did let people know the day afterwards that this will be happening again in Nov. the people laid off were all in management positions that have been there for over 10 years. Some close to 20years. The greed of commercial insurance is palpable! All in clinical operations

Something was up when Top HR Exec left. My theory is she either was forced to leave or saw the signs and jumped off the Titanic while she could. And if she is in the comments giving us insider information - thank you!

And to all higher bands helping us lower bands know what's up, we can't thank you enough. Please keep posting to help us deal.

To my knowledge a lot of the managers have known for about two months about these layoffs and did not say anything, they were probably told not to, but this has been in the works for a while now.

My manager met with us about this late today. She said she wasn't aware of future planned lay offs. Lie!!! You could tell she was obviously lying also. I'm not an id--t. Probably told not to share details by Sr. Leaders though. Thank God for this site so we aren't kept in the dark. Appreciate people sharing the truth so folks can prepare. Several close people to me were let sadly let go.

I got a WebEx meeting invite from my manager. I knew it was trouble when his camera was on (we always have them off). My employment ended at the end of the conversation. My team were the best I ever worked with. I don't need this challenge.

Was laid off on 10/12. Supervisor in CM. Been there 14 years. Place was completely mismanaged and purchased wasteful products and platforms! And yet the CNO and CEO will keep their jobs.

I know someone asked about "Future of Work" where people were being forced to go back into office. That was a HUGE lie on their end too. I know people who were actually SENT HOME from working in office right before the FOW.
They sent people home and did not fill up office spaces, that was all just them doing theater as not many people actually returned to office and some were removed from office.

What was the severance package like? Do you still get paid for 30 days before it goes into effect?

Post ID: @nxtz+1oHj33ci

So this was all done due to cutting operational expenses… But answer this for me - with the “Future of Work” and a lot of people being FORCED to return to an office…wouldn’t that cut down operational expenses??? I’m quite sure that each department has to pay “rent” for a person to have a seat in office. jobs? Or was this all apart of their master plan?? Just sickening all around. Two colleagues of mine were let go today, they both worked for Cigna for 20 years +. Just sad.
