Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

So much discontent

The way I see it, you've got several options. You can keep complaining and stay miserable, or you can focus on working hard and find satisfaction in that. There's another choice that I think everybody should consider. Build up your skills and market yourself, so you can leave Dell for something better. You're not stuck here.

You know that survey is complete a-s when they have the US engineer salary that low. New i6 software engineer salary is 130k. If youre under that, you're already cooked

Cool. I’ll pick option 1, now with the added perk of knowing it’s annoying somebody

"Stuck here until the LTI vests, I'm gone right after"
Not really, I just got fired with unvested LTI (losing $65k and stocks going up). Had coworkers in the same situation. It looks like another way for MSD to save costs. Target top performers with LTI to be vested and grow your margins

This is easily summed up. They treated their employees like absolute trash for the last 3 years straight. They think in a year or two they can replace everyone with AI (which, they are too d-mb to be actual innovators in AI so it’s honestly adorable they think that.) and now people’s morale is riiiight around 2/10 on average. If they said “hey volunteer to leave if you want a severance” there would be a stampede of people trying to get out, bad job market be damned. Now they are going to force RTO.2 to try and force more contrition.

A lot of people need the severance so they can afford to look for something else. 70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. So one bad month and they are out on the streets. Dell of course gives ZERO funks about that. But that’s the reality. Most of us want out badly, and believe it or not after a full shift of tackling 3-4 other peoples jobs who have been let go, many just want to clear their heads and rest before the incoming sh-tshow that is the next day. So there yo have it. This company doesn’t have enough true kool aid drinkers left to both exist AND innovate. And when the AI stock bubble burst and there are actual winners and losers… Dell will once again be left empty handed. Which is a reoccurring theme. It’s hard to win a war when everyone who works for you is sick and tired of being treated so badly and living in constant stress and anxiety

Spoken from someone who only views linkedin but has not started actively applying or networking for jobs yet.

I'm not growing my skills for a company that treats employees like garbage. Most of us that are still here are trying to get new jobs but thousands of our peers just from our conpany that were laid off are ALSO looking for jobs in and industry that just keeps laying people off... hard to get a job when the industry is hemorrhaging in layoffs. So yeah we kinda are stuck here hoping for a severance package. Thanks for your opinions.

Um, no.
Why would employees invest in a company while management disinvest in them?
Never extend values and ethics to a party that doesn't share them.

No. It’s really simple at any company. You give what you get. If Dell decides to put in more investment then I’ll put in more investment. Right now, they’ve decided to treat people like trash, therefore I’ll come to work and do the minimum amount. When Dell stops leading the league in layoffs and a generally terrible workplace environment then I’m sure we will put in more effort. Until then, no.
