Thread regarding Lenovo layoffs

No vision

We used to know where this company was going, what the long-term goals were, how to achieve those goals, etc.
Does leadership now seem to you as if they have completely lost their direction?
Nobody cares what will happen to this company in 10 years. That is why it is completely wrong to expect to grow a career here.

So, basically, you're saying these overpaid id!ots have no idea what they're doing and it's costing the company dearly.

Think about it; in the last 10 years (starting back in 2012), Lenovo has had 7 different Presidents of North America: David Schmoock, Gerry Smith, Jay Parker, Aymar de Lencquesaing, Emilio Ghilardi, Matthew Zielinski, and most recently, Vladimir Rozanovich. It's a revolving door and the only person who is consistent at Lenovo is CEO and chairperson, Yang Yuanqing. They have "musical chairs" for some of the VP's and SVP's too. Granted North America is NOT the company's ONLY market, but with this type of revolving door, it would be difficult to keep any vision / long term goal, other than the general "protect and attack strategy" and "increase profits".

Don't forget, Lenovo actually sold off their phone division back in the 2008 for $100 million USD and then turned around and bought it back for double the price $200 million USD. This was before Lenovo spent $2.91 billion USD buying Motorola phones division from Google.

"leadership" -- LOL. As if Lenovo has any real leaders. I wish people would stop using "leadership" in place of "management."

If you want to grow a 'career' at Lenovo - just start kissing up and licking boots. You'll eventually gain an impressive job title, but your real-world skills and humanity will disappear in the process. Your call.

It can feel that way at times. A good start would be to listen to the All Hands meetings. Lenovo continually shares the vision and plan to get there, which you are or should consider yourself a part of. Read those broadcast emails that are sent out instead of deleting them. The information is there if you really want to know where the company is headed.

On that note, I'm not a manager. Not cut out for it. Glad I don't have to make those million and billion dollar decisions.
