Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Not many promotions coming

The numbers don’t lie. Promos used to be held at no more than 2.5% of staff. This year it’s less than 0.9% for all of foundational services. CTS has 3800+ employees and are getting 34 promos. Assume it won’t be layoffs next, it will be people exiting… quickly

Now there's a feedback in WD for every internal interview, which candidate doesn't has visibility. In a system like Citi where VP taking interview of a VP or SVP taking interview of SVP or most of the times some a$shole just wanted someone from his/her native imagine what nonsense feedback would be given

Correct. Some or most open job posting already have a candidate(s) in mind, but Citi is only posting the open job as a formality and for show to make it look like Citi is going through the Bull$hit motions of interviewing other job candidates.

This is wasting the Svckers-Job Candidates' time, effort and false hopes, as well as Citi's own time and Shareholders time and money.

Also be aware that the initial interviewer or hiring manager's name shown on the job posting may Not be the real hiring manager. They're only the initial screener and the real hiring manager may be the 2nd or 3rd interviewer in the interview cycle. I've encountered this several times.

In Citi, there was Only one time a "hiring manager", the initial screener told me the team/group already chose a candidate because of nepotism and/or an internal recommendation. She said that if the hiring decision was up to her, she would hire me. She even said she thought I was the best person for the job. At least she was honest, wanted to manage my expectations and false hopes.

Thankfully and I have Schadenfreude, the person that the team/group eventually hired is grossly under-qualified in terms of work experience, skills and educational background. Ha, Ha, LMFAO!

The vicious cycle at Citi goes on.....Low caliber employees getting hired or retained.....Citi can NEVER get out of Consent Orders, MRIAs, Regulatory $$$ monetary fines, Fvck Ups, etc. ad infinitum. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. LOL!

All that Sh!tibank BullSh!t talk about "Career Mobility" is BullSh!t.

The barriers to entry and standards are lower for external job candidates. There are many posters on this Site who stated that they've applied to hundreds if not thousands of internal jobs to NO avail, and have gotten only the Cookie Cutter email rejection "We won't be moving forward with your application...But we're still interested in your "Career Development" and proud to have you on the "Team"......" BullSh!t, Blah, Blah, Blah.

The Only way Up is OUT of Citi. There is NO Future in Sh!tibank. It's a dying Dog anyway grappling at straws and selling off business units.

Yes Nepotism at Sh!tibank is rampant.

As long as the employee is Not a Direct Report of the relative or in the same reporting line, Sh!tibank generally looks the other way and gives this behaviour a free pass.

Take for example the father PF in Tech, got his son, NF, a job in Treasury reporting to TL.

Sh!tibank only goes through the motions of interviewing other Svckers for optics which means the Svckers' time and false hopes are wasted !

There are millions of other examples at Sh!tibank .

There are risks to leaving your current Citi job/role and starting a new job/role one-level up.

Just because you were successful in lower, previous jobs does Not mean you'll be successful in your new job. You need to learn the new job, new procedures, new processes, new methods, new personalities, new technology/systems in the new team or department. What if you're Not successful in your new Citi job that you transferred internally to ? You could get bad performance ratings.

At Citi the most you'll get in a new higher job level is 15% salary increase, IF Citi even gives you that much. The standard is at least 20% increase, if not more, when you leave your current employer.

Although you still need to learn a new job, company, etc.., at least the risk premium for making the change is higher than if you remain in Citi.

I've never had a relevel, i have only applied to open roles have tripled my salary in 5 years without leaving Citi. I would never sit and wait around either.

Are you telling me I could get more than that by sitting around on my a-s?

@tm

When employees are do NOT get IN-Seat promotions and are stuck as AVP, VP, SVP etc. for years or decades, they've effectively been RE-Leveled.

This is still going on in Citi. Because of the continuing Layoffs, some employees are being given the choice of getting Laidoff or getting RE-Leveled back down one Rank/Title e.g. Director TO SVP, SVP TO VP, VP TO AVP.

The latter means lower bonus percentage. If you were normally getting a 20% bonus, you will now get 15% or lower. You will also need to remain and prove yourself again in order to go back up to the Title/Rank you had before getting Re-Leveled.

You're effectively left back One-Grade and need to Re-Do that Grade just like in school (7th grader NOT going to 8th grade; High School Senior Not being permitted to graduate, etc.).

@tm

What the OP is talking about are IN-Seat Promotion of which there's practically zero percent in Citi.

If employees need to quit their current jobs in order to move up in Citi, this is NOT a promotion. It means quitting your current roles / jobs.

The same is true when employees need to quit their current jobs to remain in their current Title (e.g. VP to VP (Note: Citi VPs are the equivalent of GS' and JPMC's AVP / Associate / Analyst. So accepting a VP job in GS / JPMC / BofA etc. is actually a move up and the equivalent of Citi Director), Director to Director, etc.) and work for Citi's competitors.

This still means the employees need to quit their current Citi jobs in order to move up in their careers. This is NOT a promotion.

Citi can NOT afford IN-Seat Promotions unlike GS, JPMC, BofA, Morgan etc.. because Citi is financially unstable and destitute.

There are thousands of promotions available on the internal jobs website. Or do you mean relevelling... which of course there will be less than 5 years ago as we had a global restructuring.

If you want a higher salary........ apply to open roles! Stop waiting and wanting things handed to you.

Sh!tibank lives up to its famous, or rather infamous reputation with the derisive moniker, "Citibank's VP Glass Ceiling".

The majority of employees get stuck in and stagnate as a VP forever.

Everyone in Sh!tibank is a VP. LOL ! People both outside and inside Sh!tibank know this.

I LMFAO whenever I get emails about "congratulating" co-workers=Svckers who were "promoted" from AVP to VP. There should be a Footnote Disclaimer in those emails stating, "The Svcker will now be a VP for Life, Forever." LMFAO !

@p5 us non ambitious workers celebrate our healthy work /life balance. Coasting at about 75% effort we get the job done don’t make wave or errors and periodically job hop to level up our income. In year 4 of slacking at Citi while laughing at the su-kers chasing better than a 3/3. Will leave the rat race soon.

Exactly ! The running joke both internally and externally is that Everyone is a VP in Citi, and Citi's VPs are the equivalent if GS', JPMC's, Morgan Stanley's and BofA's AVP / Associates / Analysts in terms of work projects, salaries and bonuses.

At Citi, VPs are infantilized. It's Not an apples to apples comparison.

If you're a VP at GS, JPMC, BofA, Barclays or Morgan Stanley and Insanely want a job in Citi, then apply for Director or MD jobs, NOT SVP or below.

Citi is an employer for the NON-ambitious employees.
You will get stuck in and stagnate as a VP/SVP for at least 5 years if not decades possibly into retirement if you're Gullible and Dvmb enough to want to remain in Citi.

These are the machinations of a financially unstable and destitute employer.

This has been the case @ Sh!tibank for at least the past 5 years. There's No incentive to stay.

The first employees to QUIT are the ones with options because they have skills and knowledge competitors and employers need and want.

These are the employees Sh!tibank needs to help Sh!tibank. It's a vicious circle De@th spiral for Sh!tibank.

The employees who choose to remain are the Dregs-Br@!n De@d Ret@rds because they have No options, skills and knowledge. LMFAO!

Lather, rinse, repeat.....Hence, Sh!tibank's ultimate demise and bankruptcy.

It doesn't hurt to try and look for a better job outside of $hitibank.

You need to knock on doors before anyone opens them. Employers don't know you're looking for a better job until you apply for jobs.
