Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Do not attempt to normalize UHG’s behavior

Corporations exist and are wildly successful without needing to resort to inhumane treatment of workers such as bullying and harassment. For those of you who post comments saying to “just deal with it and move on”; what are you really saying? And who are you anyway? Cause I doubt you are a past or present worker. This is not acceptable business practice to create the workplace described in these hundreds of postings. Reep what you sow, for better or worse. And, to my leadership team, and even HR, thank you for creating such an unbearable atmosphere that I finally walked away.

@vnf+1vfLi3MJ The best solution is for whatever mo--n decided to offshore our IT and force engineers to handle literally all of their work instead of, I don't know, engineering, to be gutted and replaced. The one shared braincell in leadership really seems to be getting limit tested and could use someone who isn't a psychotic fu--ing reptoid who torches this company's future and people's lives for a short term dopamine hit from numbers briefly going up.

Well said except the Idio-/ who said fire all the unhappy people. They would not have anyone left but toxic VP’s , really clueless directors, and their insane managers who lost their sc--ws somewhere along the line . Case in point when the manager is such a liar that she forgets who and what she has lied about and to who. Favorite saying. That was taken out of context and only several times as she repeats her lies. Love that leadership has no integrity, no values , pathological liars etc. Just lay everyone off all ready .

@vde+1vfLi3MJ Good idea LoL, just how will you identify them all? Remember a few years back when they couldn’t get staff to complete the surveys? That might have been a clue but how about the liars who responded positively but weren’t? I know I didn’t fill them out knowing there was nothing anonymous about them. I chose to quiet quit and based on how long delivery takes and how expensive it is to provide compared to other service contractors(healthcare as a service) many others have quietly quit!

I do training to keep my technical skills up and I also do projects on the side. If your employer isn't training you or letting you improve your skills, then do it on your own!

This actually can work, especially in a very large org, but the trick is that you need to do it in the early layoffs, otherwise you end up with a lean staff, heavily comprised of sole knowledge holders/points of contact, who are mostly VERY angry/reactive, and you can't cut them without major disruption of workflow.

Realistically, the time for 'tude cuts was 4+ years ago for Optum/UHG. Doing way more harm than good if tried now.

Sometimes the best solution to morale problems is to fire all the unhappy people.

I think the hundreds of posts could easily be thousands of posts about what a sh-t hole Optum is to work for! I can say that because every other employer allowed me and other colleagues to grow and expand our technical knowledge. Over 14yrs I have seen Optum compartmentalize and restrict the day to day responsibilities of technical workers while causing my skills to atrophy over the years. Sure they would provide me with a class or two every year but even that stopped because I complained that once given the training I was not given any additional opportunities to use and develop the skill. The incompetent mgmt was there just to maintain a organizational structure but not to develop and grow the careers of their direct reports. As I have posted before this company is too big to fail but that doesn’t mean it’s well run! The company does not have a good reputation except as an employer for inexperienced technicians which they can demand work long hours at repetitive simple assignments. So take comfort in that there are many unhappy customers and many other unhappy staff members, certainly that is no way to run a corporation and it’s starting to catch on just what they are!
