Can’t believe Oxy has resorted to this stupid hybrid work schedule. It has nothing to do with covid anymore. If you really want a strong workforce then you want people who believe in the company and are willing to be in the office 4 and 1/2 days a week. If they are not willing to work the schedule that THE COMPANY wants who needs them. There are plenty of highly qualified workers willing to work for you under a traditional schedule. For shame VH and all of the executive management for putting up with this nonsense.

Congrats OP. You may have just set a new record on the layoff for the most downvoted post of all time.
Does this mean that all of the millennials are going to quit? Oh boo boo. That’s a real shame. It will take about 10 minutes for oxy to replace them.
And no meetings before 11:00am. I like to stay up late and sleep in. Last year at school I didn’t take any classes before noon!
There needs to be a rule that no virtual meeting happen after 2pm. That way you can make an afternoon tee time at the country club. Wouldn’t want work to start getting in the way.
Nah, it won’t happen. You can go back full time if you want to. The rest of us will do the BWP going forward!
You will go back to the office PERIOD. Gladly quit if you don’t like it.
To the comment below, are you slow or just stupid? The most common was 38% because those jobs require employees to be in the office to do their job. We do not. BWP isn’t going away no matter how much you wish that was the case. The precedent has been set. Gladly retire if you don’t like it.
The most frequent is 5 days in the office. If you added in the 4 days in the office it is over 50%. Like you said there should be no complaints about the Oxy schedule. It is a fair deal everything considered. Enjoy it while it lasts.
If you look at businesses in Houston you can see Oxy is the most common percentile for allowing WFH. Below is from the Greater Houston Partnership Poll. I would not complain too much as Oxy's policy is pretty good. There is no doubt many can do their job well from home, but I have heard many are struggling as well. I for one will be glad to unplug to a point at 4:00pm when my day is over. People are going to have to lower their expectations on deliverables as well. Calling people on their way home and at home for non-critical jobs should be off the table again. I just hope we have not created a monster in expectations for all the extra work we have been doing from home. And that Teams chat sucks. It is nice at times, but it is like someone walking in your door every 5 minutes at work and it is hard to concentrate without being interrupted. It has turned into a bother now.
4% = 1 Day in Office
18% = 2 Days in Office
22% = 3 Days in Office (Oxy)
18% = 4 Days in Office
38% = 5 Days in Office
Where were you before WFH. Most employees did a fair amount of work from home as needed. This was especially true for international and other jobs requiring 24 hour monitoring. There was never any additional compensation for working more than 9 hours per day. You did what was required as a professional. Maybe that work ethic is gone now.
WFH was new for me as it was for mostly everyone. I can relate to VH's comment regarding working too long and no apparent end to the day. I have been guilty of that and worked too much which has caused a bit of burnout. I think this comes from self management and just need to stop working at a certain time. I wish we did have a permanent WFH option and just quit at a certain time. This was really the only reason that she gave for it being bad. The way it was framed is that it's bad because employees are working too many hours from home, hence the productivity.
They need to allow WFH full time as an option. I for one plan to walk out the door right at 4 each day now if I have to sit in traffic 2 hours a day again.
OXY had a great opportunity to seize the moment and make work from home a full time option for its staff and use it as a powerful tool for recruitment and talent retention (which we know is struggling right now). It would obviously differentiate OXY in the hiring space. Unfortunately, it's been communicated very poorly: multiple confusing emails stating a hard line approach and then a reformatted message saying exemptions are possible through summer, poorly addressed at the town hall leaving no time for Q&A, and now VH is saying WFH wasn't as good as the staff thought it was. I think this surprised many people, as they've been telling us how productive we've been for the past year+ especially considering many folks are doing 2 or 3 people's jobs. Much talent has already been depleted by the previous VSPs and layoffs. There's clearly not enough staff to do the work and there's huge initiatives at play to ensure the two companies operate efficiently as one. Wouldn't be surprised if additional younger, capable staff leave for remote options or more flexible work, as this seems to be playing out right now already. The debt reduction has been poor this last quarter, and I suspect productivity will be lower this quarter as staff are forced to return to the office. Hopefully leadership realizes that providing the option to work remotely may actually be worthwhile.
Comment below is some clearly some micromanager at oxy that’s pi---d he didn’t get his way having everyone back full time. Lol
Then quit and go work for some company that allows you to work from home all of the time. Show the company who is boss. There will be people lining up to take your job.
We’re billions of dollars in debt and stretched razor thin with nothing to show for it. There’s not a damn reason we NEED to go back to the office. We’ve obviously proved that we can do our jobs remotely for the last year. Why not save the millions we’re paying in rent and use that money to pay down our massive debt? Just because you cry babies need a 9 hour escape from your miserable home lives? There’s absolutely no reason we NEED to be in the office to do our jobs.
I got a solution for you - Opt in to the 5/40 schedule and stop talking about it.
Hope i don't work with these Brats!
No one wants to work for Oxy not even the current employees.
The normal schedule would be great for those interested in the company’s success and also their own career.
This is not true, You can choose normal schedule.
Nice try @vdd+1b1fXVU0. I’m old too but enjoyed my job, am faithful to my wife, loved my kids, but did go to church on Sunday. Most of my old friends did too. So sorry your family life wasn’t so pleasant.
Grow up. Life is tough and you do not always get your way. Nothing worthwhile comes without hard work and sacrifice. Did you by any chance get a trophy for losing when you were growing up.
I’m old and fear change. Also this new fangled attitude that you should enjoy life. Bah! Back in my day, we hated our jobs, cheated on our wives, neglected our kids, and went to church every Sunday. Wait...where was I going with this?
How hateful, and RUDE you millennials are toward Boomers. Shame on YOU and pray you are NOT on my team. If you are you will be kicked off! Some of you are not productive and do not collaborate! Us Boomers are very supportive of OXY’s new work schedules so shut up and move on.
Hey my generation wants to work whenever, wherever, however, on whatever makes us comfortable. Leave us alone. We deserve it, or so I’ve been told.
Sounds like someone is upset they don’t get to work this schedule. Chevron, marathon and several others are doing this too, so shut your boomer mouth and keep drinking your haterade.
It is called WOKE. But in the end we will be back to the regular schedule. Plus, some are going to implode when they find exceptions have been made to continue to work from home without a medical reason. In all fairness Oxy has done a fantastic job on how they have allowed us to work from home, so that was great while it lasted. Once the WOKE crowd goes back to sleep we will be back to normal, but until then they will ride the pandemic for their personal gain. If you have not noticed the world is upside down.
The OP is an overpaid boomer that cant figure out how to use kindergartener software. Zoom is too hard for you boomer? Because you yell at the microphone and point the camera up your nose? Cant wait for these old farts to get cut!
I like it. I think we should all stay home and Save the rental cost.
