Was just told that HP is suspending all contract work company-wide for upwards of two full weeks starting at the end of August, and the contract manager only was told very late last night. Is this the end for my team? I was sure that we would be a little more secure than this, but now I think we might be in danger

@vb - HP may pay contractors well in the Bay Area, but in Houston, they don’t pay diddly squat. I took a job as a contractor at HP because it was close to home and nobody else was hiring during Covid. I did like the job but it put a lot of pressure on me since HP kept furloughing the contractors, and the best people kept quitting, and I was expected to take up the slack. I want to personally thank Randstad for saving me from furlough he-l and doubling my salary.
I only work for HP because when it comes to FANG I didn’t make the cut. Still better than working for most other companies that aren’t well known. It’s funny how haters on here boast about leaving HP for these other companies without mentioning their name despite it being so much “better”.
CWs - Why on earth are you putting up with this garbage?
As a CW, let me fill you in.
I work out of the Corvallis campus and that is 45 minutes from where I live. Why? Because it is the only decent paying job for miles around. Sure I could work for smaller companies at 1/2 the pay, but why would I do that? Other than the Bay Area where HP is just one of the many high paying companies, HP in other parts of the country is often the only job in town.
CWs - Why on earth are you putting up with this garbage? You have outstanding skills, go elsewhere where you are valued. HP employees have always treated CWs as third class citizens.
My agency told me about that 2 months ago. I got a 5 day furlough for Q4 but I also got a 5 day furlough for Q3. Actually not too bad since I normally get about 2-4 week furlough every year since 2019
This is partially true. Some, not all will be affected.
