Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is going to happen with the El Segundo hub?

Anyone have the inside scoop now that AT&T is offloading DirecTV? Will we have to commute to Cerritos or Tustin? Or “RTO” to Dallas?

I’ve heard Cerritos already has capacity issues without adding more employees to the mix.

Man, you are doomed. You are in a high cost of living area. If directv.com, don’t move. If att.com employee, don’t move for directv work, for an att job.

I heard the Lancaster office is going to replace Tustin and El Segundo.

You're headed to El Dallasito.

I support DTV and was planning to uproot my life and move to Dallas by EOY per RTO requirements. Now with this announcement I wonder if they will cancel the move and let me stay. Or they will make me move and then DTV will lay me off with minimal severance.

If you supported DTV, your job will move with the final sale. This way T pays no severance. If DTV surpluses you, you have minimum severance as a "new employee". This strategy has been a tried and true method for years to minimize severance and reduce headcount; remember all the outsourcing to IBM, Accenture, CSC? Those T employees often kept the same desk, but wore an IBM badge, etc. After the vendor gained your knowledge, you were let go, usually in 12 months, with minimum severance as their "new employee". I know of many co-workers who supported DTV via AT&T systems who were transferred when T first purchased DTV.

If you support DTV and we’re getting rid of that, your job is going away, not moving to TX.

"Or “RTO” to Dallas?"

Or consider that you are no longer needed and RTO may not be a concern for you.

Worse. They're buying an office building in Lancaster to avoid paying true coastal salaries.
