People who have had a normal upbringing with good enough parents are shocked when they first encounter toxic people in the workplace. They keep trying to explain the toxic behaviors as one off behaviors by otherwise ‘good’ people. Once they are in deep and realize that they have been played and even helped mete out the toxic behaviors they sort of implode. The more they try to expose the toxic behaviors the more others disbelieve them and blame them.
The toxic individuals will try to impact your personal life as well as future workplaces. They are sickos. One LL6 went out of her way to become ‘friends’ with another LL6s wife and then set about causing all sorts of discord in their marriage by telling lies to the wife.
The bad thing is if thru no fault of your own you find yourself as the target of one of these toxic people your only safe choice is to quit Ford and cut off all contact with any and all Ford employees.
@q9 Unfortunately, a psychologist educated me on this exact type of situation, stating that these individuals are likely unsafe to be around. Yet HR and management continue to let them harass, probably even offering reassurances like, "You did the right thing, hun." I also learned that women are more prone to this type of behavior, often taking a state of "limerance" and refusing to let go until they get their way, doubt that goes well for anyone especially their limerant object.
@q8 Done is never done for those people.
@q7 I think they doubled down by digging deep by reaching out to family friends or people that know my family. Then coming back like I'm their bestie too all of a sudden. I found that very frustrating to deal with...
@ps I've had that happen to me before. Unfortunately I can safely say that-that wasn't Ford. I got a proxy phone call from someone's bestie, but I couldn't get to the phone because I was busy on FL Studio. I'm pretty sure it was someone I was clearly not on talking terms with that was "in my area".
@ps just don't go to Coney Island and you're good
I guess I’d be okay with that it if it keeps them from showing up at my place in the middle of the night. Creepy people…
@kx u not a real one if u dont know about the cameras in the living rooms
@kq given you don’t know what nmpdc is I’m guessing you don’t even work here
Even so...who cares?
@k9 this is actually not true anymore.
At some point why care at all? Your LL6 actually has to go through a good amount of hoops to fire you for performance. You basically need to do nothing for that to happen. Anyone that wants or expects a team full of rock stars can get bent.
@j9 I don’t have a problem with my boss or my performance. Some of those sh---y LLs are ridiculous, who brings a smile to speak up then calls it a softer issue?
@dx If that's actually true then your position is way too easy or you actually su-k at your job and want to cover that up with claims of LL6 persecution . You have too much time to worry about inane office BS rather than just blowing the doors off your job and making whatever your LL6 says irrelevant.
@dw I legit work here, and can honestly tell you that some of the nastiest people are LL6 and above. They will stop at nothing to smear others when they don’t get their way. Others, higher in the chain will support them, it’s a sick company. Oddly this kinda worked out for me in the long run, appearances can be deceptive, they may seem friendly, but they’re anything but, and sometimes the ones you think are some of the nastiest turn out to be your closest allies, and are a bit soft under their shell
@bj I would not take this board as evidence for anything. 80% of the posts are from trolls who never worked at Ford, or some low achiever who got fired and has an axe to grind.
Easier said than done.
How long have you been around? It's ALWAYS about politics. Yes it matters who sees your work IF promotion is on your radar. Otherwise it matters for your supervisor for bonus time and not much else.
From the sounds of things on this board lately, really looks like any kind of promotion into management is undesirable at this point. Hasn't exactly gotten good press around here lately. "Promotions" seem less and less congruent with what people seem to want out of their jobs lately. I see people wanting to climb the ladder less and less and just wanting to be left alone. It's a self inflicted wound the management culture at Ford imposed on itself. Most people would seem to stand by and watch it like a train wreck not wanting to get involved.
@b1 It's literally not been any different at any point in ford's past. If anyone thinks being quiet and good at your job alone makes you promotion material, you've never worked in corporate America. There are too many other people in the same boat. It's not about politics, but about getting the right eyes on your accomplishments.
To be honest, I don't think you're going to change the social culture at Ford. Current management continues to recycle the same type of ineffective leadership into open positions, reinforcing the very behaviors that created the problem. Until competence, accountability, and performance matter more than politics, networking, and self-promotion, meaningful change is unlikely.
LL4's, LL5's, LL6's, Supervision...
Start looking sounds like bad advice
Fabulous advice but I'll pass.
Until I receive a fat severance package, I'll be here, collecting as many checks as possible, doing as little work as possible, and wasting corporate resources at every opportunity.
So sorry if that doesn't align with your worldview. I'm sure you'll find a way to muddle through.
