Thread regarding Hess Corp. layoffs

Dust is settling…

Everyone has received the news, the significant majority will be leaving in the next 1-10 months. Most have come to grips with the verdict, some have not, and most are slightly bitter about the lack of plan the executive leaders had for upholding two of the 6 Hess Values (Integrity and People) in this acquisition. Bitterness is temporary, all will move on to new things and I venture to say most will find it to be a nice fresh start. The Hess name plate will come down, replaced by Chevron…but the people are what make a company. Help each other out finding new roles, be intentional on keeping up with colleagues as we go in separate directions, find a role and company that make you excited to go to work everyday. Stay positive, make a plan, execute your plan…don’t look back.

Hess had some of the worst employees that unfortunately my company is hiring now. Hess really did nothing spectacular. Bakken that was not making money, a few old mismanaged assets in the GoA, and yes Guyana, thanks to Exxon where I am. Hess had a bunch of useless directors and managers, and now they expect sympathy from the industry. Well, when you were vacationing and getting 50% bonus at your company you were fine.

@5fq We transitionals (8/10 in GOM) are soon to be unsupervised kids as the managers move over and we are left in the Hess building "indefinitely" and no communication from anyone at Chevron. At some point they owe us the courtesy of a plan.

How are things now after the 26th?

@3bc 100% correct. The industry is filled with boomers who view anyone 45 or younger as trash. They all need to just retire and go away.

@34e What do you expect from an industry filled with degenerate unskilled laborers. Oil and gas work is the male equivalent to being a stripper. You’ll make great money for a while, but the lifestyle will catch up with you. The problem is l, this company WAS full of arrogant individuals who convinced themselves they were better than the other adult entertainment establishment. Only to find that all strip clubs are the same!

Another thread that's giving a positive view of a poor situation met with swaths of negative keyboard warriors. How does keyboard bashing make you feel? Exactly, not any better because your mind is even more negative now. Until you take control of your mind and how you want to project forward, you will let your employer and/or narratives dictate (control) your outlook. Griping and moaning catalyzes negativity, don't fall into that trap. Yes I work for Hess, no I'm not HR, yes I'm getting released shortly.

Hess Exp VP got a huge payout, 8 figures closer to 9, ironically allegedly she didn’t even want to drill in Guyana

@v2 that track record is why our two companies compliment each other

@t7 no HR here, just someone who took the 20 months to control what I could control which is my next move based on the outcome. My post was simply a positive note on a negative site trying to give someone a positive perspective. Good luck t7!

CVX will be real disappointed when they figure out Hess Exploration has not hit a single, much less a home run in over a decade of attempts. Plenty of high dollar strike outs though.

OP is obviously an HR clown, who doesn’t know the current job market in our industry with low oil prices and demand as well as the mergers and acquisitions which have resulted in significant layoffs. Go blow smoke up someone else’s a s s clown.

@OP: umm.....yes, Captain Obvious.... What was the point of your post? To say: "there, there" in fewer than 300 characters? Everyone knows it's not the end of the world -- what su-ks is that we got ph--ked twice: once by our own CEO who led us straight to sla-ghter after gaslighting us for years about how special Hess is and its people, and a second time by Chevron, which disguised a "ra-e & pillage" operation as a "merger". Neither company had the common curtesy to tell us the truth about what's coming and let us prepare accordingly. They treated us like disposable pawns -- all in the name of achieving a one-time profit increase of 10%.
