It's a bit like calm before the storm there right now.
Do more with less, burn yourself out and then you leave. That will be what they want right now.
Anyone with any sense about them would leave CommScope before they are pushed. The company are a sinking ship. The cost cutting and things going on internally is all reactive to the situation as it is but it is too little too late. A delayed knee jerk reaction is what it is.
What you have now are the hangers on, the people who have been there so long that they know that if there are lay offs, then the severence package will be worth hanging on for. When you have lots of people in that mindset, morale is going to be low.
The incompetence in the company is there for all to see. Blame the Arris acquisition, Home Networks which have now split off, to go Vantiva, or another business segment for all the wrongs. There are only so many times they can keep on using the same excuses. When the last lot of upper management have left, it's over to the next lot. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat!
In a town hall meeting yesterday, the news was CCS was making more than forecast, and we had so many orders we are now worried about getting raw materials. We were also told no layoffs for CCS in the foreseeable future.
Cisco is cutting 5% of their workforce. They said their big customers overbought during Covid and now are taking longer to eat through their inventory. Plus they are seeing weak demand from telco and cable customers, who are slowing down deployments. This can’t be a good sign for us.
Agree with last post.been laid off with any severance would be merciful. The bs of offloading the workload of 3+ colleagues just sums up how this company values employees. Then to be told you will get a warning if don't follow x,y,z. But hey.. Guess what ..no one to give proper training on x,y,z and when team asks for said training we get fobbed off. So how thy he-l can you threaten employees with a warning under these circumstances. its A.they hoping to fire you B. They want burnout and for employee to leave of own accord or C. They just too incompetent to string any processes together.
"...So my guess is that we'll know a lot more about possible layoffs by month end. Let's all hope for a miracle..."
Instead of a miracle, wouldn't you instead hope for the mercy of a layoff and severence package?
After going through multiple acquisitions and layoffs, I personally was stuck juggling 3-4 different job descriptions. When I first started with ARRIS, I had the one job description and I shone and whirled up the promotion ladder like crazy. Why? Because I could handle my job, and do a lot of bonus work to support my job that showed upper management I was a "Real Go-Getter"...
Kick it forward 14 years, after a handful of acquisitions & mergers, and an ongoing ever constant 18-36 month Reduction in Force (RIF). Now I'm juggling 4 job titles, for 4 Non-backfilled employees. Am I excelling at my work? No. I'm barely able to keep everything moving and in the air. I would say I am failing, and SURPRISE!!!
They laid me off.... (Probably because I wasn't doing a very good job at my 4 jobs)...
Now...
Whoever remained had to take on my jobs. I imagine my jobs were spread around the department of those who were still there. What's their happiness level?
I already know. During the last lay off, panic swept my department. Managers and Mid-level managers were going bye-bye. Product lines were being divvied up, and dispersed among people already supporting other product lines. Reporting every cost and decision made had to run the gauntlet of micro-managers fearful for their own job. Truly horrible conditions to work under.
At this point in time... After a truly tragic 2023, shouldn't the hope of staying be replaced with the hope of receiving a severence package? The alternative could be the experience of returning to the office one morning to find the doors chained, and EVERYONE is out of a job, all at once, and with no severence at all?
The miracle of staying, I think, is outweighed by the mercy of being laid off before the company goes bust.
You seem to have a little intel from inside mixed with common sense. However, you can’t rely on hope.
You CAN rely on the fact “past behaviors predict future behaviors”. 👈🏻
I would say good luck, but we all know luck is not a factor.
It's a company of continous layoffs for 4 years .teams decimated and then extra work laid on those who are left to hasten burn out. How can anyone be motivated in such a culture?
Or they just fire you if you don’t fit in any longer, like fatty VP of Cyber World did to me.
Chuck & Kyle previously indicated that we would be told before the Q3/23 ER what their plans are to address the debt, then at the Q3/23 ER, they refused to discuss the issue! Therefore, it is quite possible that they will also clam up at the Q4/23 ER. I read that they have 9 to 7 months remaining where a plan must be communicated to the market in order avoid failing the going concern test. Hence, the strategy of going silent can only work for so long!
Layoffs on the Horizon
We just announced that we'll report Q4 earnings at the end of the month. We previously promised to announce a plan to deal with the debt at the same time. So there is probably a ton of work going on in Dallas right now to figure things out -- whether we can sell something big, whether 2024 revenue is going to be bad or good, and how much more costs we need to cut. So my guess is that we'll know a lot more about possible layoffs by month end. Let's all hope for a miracle.
