Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

GC 13 Base salary 8200 USD/month

Hi,
How is the Grade code 13 and 8200 USD/month salary for someone with a PhD and 6 years of experience? Currently have an offer from an IOC as well.
I feel it is a bit on the lower side. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

@6jaa+1lnGBpNN

It will take months. Sometimes up to half a year or more. Stop stressing and relax. If you need a job that desperately then Aramco isn’t for you.

If Aramco want you they will let you know, it will be on their terms and on their time, not yours.

Would you please tell us how long it took Aramco to send you the offer letter? your timeline from the interview to the offer.

There is always a pecking order. We all know that.

  1. Saudi
  2. US
  3. UK/Canada
  4. Global.
  5. Global Asia.

I might have missed some but that is the general idea.

I don’t think this is fascinating although I could be wrong. I was low balled because of the structure of my previous salary (low base compensated by a chunk of shares, ongoing). Aramco wouldn’t accept this. I accepted a low offer and would not have done so if I knew now what I didn’t know then. My advice: say you’ve reflected and researched and don’t believe it’s an offer commensurate with your skills etc. But be prepared to have them close the offer. If you do accept it will possible disturb your well-being when there, simmering in the background.

There is no expat quota, and your race does not matter. This is just Aramco being cheap. They are doing that to everybody these days. Either accept getting the dirty end of the stick or tell them that after doing some more research you're changed your mind. If they really need you they might come up, but the most likely outcome is your candidacy being terminated.

If you come, your pay will not go up. I've seen too many people accept low pay and be stuck with it. If the company gets you really cheap, it just assumes you aren't valuable. The people who get the promotions are usually well compensated to begin with. That was the pattern I saw during my six years at the company.

I wonder how many non-Muslim expats have joined recently?

Either they don't really want you or you're not making much $$$ on your current job (or unemployed). They asked for current pay stubs right? Or perhaps hiring department intentionally lowballed you just to go through the motions of making the expat quota as dictated by HR. It is a very ridiculous and unrealistic offer based on your experience and academic background. If you can accept losing them, then negotiate. What do you have to lose? But if you're desperate for money, don't negotiate. They are probably baiting so they can easily drop you.

I would hazard to guess Canadian Pakistani, as the offer was that low.

Another Canindian or Pakanadian, just what Aramco needs more of. If you think you can renegotiate after acceptance you've got a great future here and will fit in perfectly

Thanks a lot guys!
I am actually from Toronto, can I still negotiate the offer?I accepted the offer before posting here. Looks like the Houston HR bluffed me.

I had no idea about all the negativities.

The offer is a total lowball, but I wouldn't recommend you accept it even if it were 50% higher. If you are in your 30s, it is crazy to come to Aramco throw your chances of career progression in the toilet. Aramco is for old farts who can't hack it anymore in the West but don't have enough money to retire yet. Even then, its only good if you can make enough money over two years to get to retirement or whatever else you are shooting for.

That’s a truly terrible offer. There are people on 12k base at that grade code. You don’t have much experience so that may be why they are lowballing.

You have an offer at a proper firm in any case and (I hope) you are not yet at your point in your career where you have given up on promotions and advancement.

I would. say push for a grade code higher. That's way lower than 10 years ago for an equivalent position.

What position is the offer for and what subject is your PhD in? Lab Scientist I, PhD in Chemical Engineering from top 20 ranking institution worldwide.
I had no idea it is such a law ball offer, I have accepted it, can I still negotiate?

Does seem a bit low especially for a technical position. GC alone ought to bump you into the 14 bracket. Years on the job a bit light, sale yourself man. These guys are hard negotiators.

GC12/13 are probably offered for cost estimators/schedulers.

GC 12 and 13 were also typically offered for technical writers and other administrative/clerical roles they used to hire.

I know this website is a forum for current and former employees to air their displeasures. You have to take each with a grain of salt, but there is a kernel of truth on all these postings. I worked there for more than 10 years. I've lived there and experienced all of it. Ask yourself if the offer is life changing enough to take all the risks to your health, safety, career and sanity. Even worst if you have a wife and kid/s. If it is, then save most of your income and get out ASAP. But man, more than 10 years ago, my basic pay was couple hundreds more than your offer, for a grade code lower! Dang, really is going downhill! Why compare though? Think what works for you. All the best.

Sounds like a low ball offer. Push for GC 14 and a better base.
