Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How are you dealing with the stress?

With the constant threat of layoffs hanging over our heads, how is everyone coping with the stress? I don’t want to rely on medication, but I might have to if I want to avoid damaging both my physical health (like high blood pressure) and my mental well-being.

Here is how I cope with the stress micro management at Dell caused me - I get up every day, think what a bunch of fks they are, then smash them out my account and be happy I left a few years back

I work in sales and learned not to stress about things I can't co trol long ago. I am leaning into personal development and taking free certifications online and networking to get my next role. Can't wait to leave dell behind. Such a toxic place it has turned into. They lie to us all the time now and I hate being lied to.

I work to rule.

I’m going to hang around for severance but boost my skills on the company’s dime. I do enough to get by but no one in my team cares about career progression in Dell when there’s no careers available to progress into.

Even if you do get a promotion, guess what, you still work for Dell.

I think I’ve two or three years of this left to go. It’s a slow bleed but will be glad to move on to a new company with a fat payoff in my back pocket.

Yup. Dell is a landfill. I think most employees know this.
The constant penny pinching screams low grade establishment.

Dell hit me with WFR in August. The job market is awful, but I was able to start a new role within a couple of months. It has been shocking to contrast the culture and mental well-being of my new company with the 20+ years I spent at Dell. The constant signaling by management that employees are a burden to be disposed of, the constant threat of an impending layoff, constant reorgs, constant inhumane changes with no warning...all this adds up. I didn't even realize how sh---y it was and how horrible it was for my mind and health. And, I fought hard to keep my job because I had blinders on.

A good company does not operate like this. Employees are not deadbeats and leaches. Stock buybacks and exec bonuses are not the only thing. Being at a company that is growing, that is competitive, and that is not always looking for the first and fastest opportunity to throw its employees in the trash has been amazing.

Also not handling stress well…don’t want to take meds or anything else negative. Finding another job is not easy now and many previously laid off friends are experiencing this

I deal with it like everyone else, not really caring anymore. I go to work, do my job and go home. You can see the same behavior across the board.

It’s become a job. I used to love it. I could be innovative and inventive. Not anymore. So I just lay low and collect a paycheck. I don’t care about raises or promotions. I’m waiting for the market to really open back up again so I can leave.
