If you were approved by HR and your boss to be 100% telecommuter and it is in your profile what happens if they want you in the office and there is no office in the area? Would you be entitled to lay off with Severance and Unemployment or can u fire you with cause? I would think since they agreed for you to be a telecommuter they can’t lay you off for cause.

Workers are used to working remotely. In person work feels ancient.
I would suggest that anyone who has a medical issue, please begin the process to get a medical accommodation. That will protect you from getting fired.
It begins with a HR request, who then points you to Metlife. You will need your PCP to fill out a 4 page document that gets sent to Metlife. Metlife will review then approve it, send it to HR, then HR emails your manager for approval.
Once it's approved you're good to go for a year.
I live 30 mins from the office and I’m a telecommuter in the system.
If they want to let you go, they can do that for any reason or no reason ( except discriminatory reasons and the like). You’re employed at will.
I know of one guy who lived 6 hours from the office. He was let go before the layoff talk started.
Post ID: @ucb+1rwHxKsN Don’t quote me, but I think if you refuse to come in the office even if you are 2 1/2 hours away. and you are not already a telecommuter, they can fire you with cause and not pay Severance or unemployment. This company is looking for any reason not to pay you this extra money.
I have been waiting for 10 months to get approved for full time remote. I currently live 2-1/2 hours from the office and have no plans to go back. Will this get me laid off?
