Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Human Resources

Does anyone else think that allstate Human Resources is just a cro..ck. I’ve seen some of the most unethical stuff happen in HR with punishment handed down. I’ve seen qualified people people get looked over for jobs that can do in their sleep because of favoritism...it’s just not a good situation to be in.

I can absolutely confirm that hiring/promotional practices are questionable in my opinion after several years in the company. Business results (in my experience) are not factored into promotions/job moves. The business results which are so very heavily emphasized, only appear to matter at that time. If you are trying to point back to prior results or accomplishments when going for a new job, there doesn’t appear to be any interest from hiring managers. In fact, some interviewers haven’t even asked about prior accomplishments. Most decisions on higher level positions appear to be made prior to the interview process. The interview appears to be a mere formality and quite frankly, a waste of time. Even more frustrating is that you are never given any feedback about being passed over because the reason is typically laughable. Again, I am not saying this is the formal process, but it’s been my personal experience.

Wow, if you look at Carrie Blair's Linkedin she sure does not stay in one place for very long. She appears to be a hired gun to scorch the earth. And what is TRIEC? That speaks volumes.

Make no mistake, Carrie Blair was brought in specifically to crush the workforce. Layoffs, fewer promotions, smaller raises, less management accountability and never forget forced arbitration.

Allstate is famous for nepotism and maintaining their "plantation mentality". I've seen many unqualified "pretty/popular" people get promotions over those who worked hard and got the job done right. And as for the salaried employees, it's truly whip 'em till they drop. I've seen field adjusters expected to go look at cars in blizzards, even though the shops were closed because they gave a damn about their employees, additional losses added to their day because they "had to get seen" even though they weren't out of regulation, etc. Terrible place in the end. Keep looking peeps. You're better than Allstate.

HR honestly does care about the employees but they also have to answer to the business. Happy Employees = Productive Employees and the business knows that. It's like a Seesaw and they have to balance both the client (employees) and the business. Please stop blaming HR for all the problems, they aren't the evil back office department that loves to make employees lives horrible. Once you walked a mile in our shoes you would understand.

THIS! (what @lsy+... said)

HR is paid by the company to limit their liability, suppress wages, and in general put lipstick on the pig.

Read some of the #metoo stories from corporate America and time and time again HR rallies around to protect the predators and undermine the credibility of accusers.

Never ever forget.... The most important job of HR is to protect the company. That’s why every time there’s talk of a union on this site HR comes in and squashes it. Their sole purpose for existence is to protect the company. They are not there for the employee they never have been in any company. HR is an absolute joke. Wake up people they’re not there for you ever!

Yeah, I had someone trying to get me in HR cause I have the skills they desperately need (compliance related). Got an immediate rejection letter. Like a day after and I'm part of the RIF. Whatever... Their loss.

Having been involved with hiring in the past I can say that aside from tech HR has to be the most difficult aggravating area to deal with. Arrogant, self important bimbos most not at all qualified to do their job. Most have no power whatsoever in their own lives so the little bit the company hands them they flaunt like a gold sword. Most have been given their little roles based off favoritism itself or from the "heels up" method. Most couldn't answer a customer call without a script let alone handle business. A true low spot in this company.
