COVID-19 layoffs?

Anyone hear any rumors about people being let go because of the impact of COVID-19?

I got laid off from DCG in 2019. Initially it was hard, but as the 30-days went on, it was a blessing. Job market was hot. Now, the market is COLD and will be in this sector and almost all others for a while. I would not be surprised of DCG dumped about 500 from the US. There is no leadership there and the Lenovo managers vs the IBM managers are the worst. I know one tub-o-lard that is just a backstabbing PoS.

I feel sorry for my coworkers that remained. They were crazy to stay strictly for money. I get paid less, but make more money because of the benefits. It also provides a retirement path in 10-12 years. I did not have that while at Lenovo.

Are all contractors in Morrisville getting affected or just DCG?

How hard will DCG get hit? Last year’s layoff in DCG was massive.

Not sure about mbg but dcg is going to get hit hard. If you are not job hunting by now, you should start right away. 30 days left.

@tydf+142RQPQV: Of course, they're going to spin everything to a positive message to keep the slaves working and unaware of what's really going on. I wouldn't read into those "good news" posts too much, they're just a distraction.

This can’t be true. I keep seeing posts about all Lenovo is doing to help.

All DCG contractors must exit the business by 4/30. Who do you think is next?

Confirmed contractor layoffs across multiple Lenovo groups in US and other 'high cost' geos.

Various groups within DCG are being asked to document their "disaster recovery" plan. If a major site stops work for 30 days, what work can be picked up by another site? I'm guessing this is either a precursor to furloughs or layoffs...

Layoffs are in the works already, in the us as well as some remote locations. They will hit in May or in June as last year.

Not looking good so far. Email from executives came out today stating that there will be no merit pay increases for this fiscal year (20/21) and promotion pay increases will be delayed to the next fiscal year (21/22). I fear that next step will be layoffs...

Lenovo is a toxic place to be. Worst company I ever worked for. If you are in the US, you are going to get decimated soon. Lenovo does not care about the US workforce. They view the US workers as an expense and nothing more. A burden rate of $200,000 per year. They look at the cost of letting you go versus keeping you. A way to check is look at your benefits. There is that little non-vested medical part to it. In many cases it is about $25k. You lose that if they let you go. That covers most of the cost of a layoff and that assumes they even give a pension. And as this whole thing begins to end, you better believe all of the corporate and large buyers will think hard about funding a Chinese company by buying their products. Imagine going to a sales meeting. HP, Dell, and Lenovo in the works. HP and Dell only have to say: "Remember what China did with Covid-19 and how it affected your business?" That will carry its weight in gold. Lenovo will be kicked out of so many deals it won't be funny. The only way they could win is with price. To do that, they need more cheap China labor and not US labor. When you are looking at 1-2% profit to get deals, US workers are done.

No. I am sure there will be tough times and decisions ahead for all companies but there should be increased demand for PCs (remote work and education) and Smart Office. Further down the line IoT devices demand may increase. Tough to see a way out in Server or Phones.
